Your Prophet’s respect won’t be at stake
Gulalai Ismail a couple of hours ago:
No sane mind should defend blasphemy law onwards, after seeing the implication of making blasphemy a punishable crime no one should ever suggest that their feelings are more worthy than human life. This brutal murder would have never happened if we had taught our children it’s totally okay if someone say something blasphemous, don’t feel hurt with it, it says nothing about your religion or Faith. Engage with them in dialogue and if they don’t listen to you – move on! Your Prophet’s respect won’t be at stake, your religion won’t be at stake with someone doing blasphemy.
I wish more believers listened to fellow believers like Gulalai.
I’ve always felt that the true blasphemers are those who commit these outrages: they make their God’s ego to be as petty and fragile as their own. Seriously, wouldn’t the Creator and Lord of the Cosmos be serenely above the insults of puny humans?
Steve Watson, that would seem to follow, but if you read the Bible (I haven’t read the Koran, so I can’t speak for that), this is a god who drowned every living thing on earth for some vague unspecified reason, and ordered the slaughter of entire races of people because they did not worship him. It’s easy to see where people get the idea that their god needs protection; it’s all through the books “he” supposedly wrote.
All through all the slightly different books all the different “He”s supposedly wrote. And always by proxy. Hmm, wonder what those contrails REALLY mean?
If something powerful enough to be called a god or ‘God’ wanted to give a message to humanity, it could write it in letters of fire in the night sky, or use any of a multitude of other means that would similarly A) get the message to lots of people quickly, and B) make it clear that the message is from a superhumanly powerful entity.
The various competing religions claim instead that God gave the message to one person or a small group and said ‘spread the word’. This amounts to saying that God is outrageously stupid. Clearly the real blasphemers are anyone claiming to have a message from God.
