Basics of international law for imbeciles
Merkel had to explain the Geneva Convention to Trump when they talked on the phone Saturday.
Donald Trump’s executive order to halt travel from seven Muslim-majority countries – Iraq, Syria, Iran, Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Somalia – has provoked a wave of concern and condemnation from international leaders and politicians.
A spokesman for Angela Merkel said the German chancellor regretted Trump’s decision to ban citizens of certain countries from entering the US, adding that she had “explained” the obligations of the refugee convention to the new president in a phone call on Saturday.
“The chancellor regrets the US government’s entry ban against refugees and the citizens of certain countries,” Merkel’s spokesman Steffen Seibert said in a statement.
“She is convinced that the necessary, decisive battle against terrorism does not justify a general suspicion against people of a certain origin or a certain religion.
“The … refugee convention requires the international community to take in war refugees on humanitarian grounds. All signatory states are obligated to do. The German government explained this policy in their call yesterday.”
That’s the kind of thing he should already know.
When you know things other people don’t know, there is no real reason you need to know things other people do know, right?
Are these known unknowns or unknown unknowns?
Why? Was it on TV? Which show?
I’d settle for “that’s the kind of thing he should be interested in learning” at this point.
He knows he said he would study after he became President, but learning is hard and he got bored.

“Are these known unknowns or unknown unknowns?”
I think you might be confusing somebody’s reality ‘out there’ with the inside of Trump’s head: which has to be an ‘unknown known’.
Confusing? You bet it is.
Here’s a simple solution that you can possibly expect to see from a certain simple man: if the Geneva Convention is percieved to restrict America’s border closure, withdraw from it.

Certain _other_ Geneva conventions also kinda _should_ cramp his style on waterboarding… Notwithstanding the various wiggles around it used previously. Not technically prisoners of war/not _our_ prisoners/not technically torture… Honestly, it was like watching a two year old make excuses on the playground _then_. I fear I may sprain something cringing, this time. Might almost be a relief if he just straight up withdrew… Let’s get this pariah state thing done cleanly.
You don’t slam the door on refugees because you’re afraid of what they are fleeing.
Oh wait, we did that in 1939. If Americans weren’t more interested in Kim Kardashian’s left nipple than the entire 20th century, we wouldn’t be facing this craziness.
Christ, don’t tell him, he’ll want to get out of that now, too.
