Invented facts
Yesterday Trump met with Congressional boffins, and he actually told them that illegal voters cost him the popular vote. That’s a fake news alternative facts lie.
Days after being sworn in, President Trump insisted to congressional leaders invited to a reception at the White House that he would have won the popular vote had it not been for millions of illegal votes, according to people familiar with the meeting.
Trump has repeatedly claimed, without evidence, that widespread voter fraud caused him to lose the popular vote to Hillary Clinton, even while he clinched the presidency with an electoral college victory.
Two people familiar with the meeting said Trump spent about 10 minutes at the start of the bipartisan gathering rehashing the campaign. He also told them that between 3 million and 5 million illegal votes caused him to lose the popular vote.
This is at a time when Republicans are working hard to suppress non-white voting.

Trump doesn’t need evidence. His evidence is the fact that he lost the popular vote. Since he is soooooo popular, the only way he could have lost the popular vote is through illegal voting. QED.
Of course, since we had extremely long lines with a low voter turnout, could it be the opposite occurred? That the lost of the Voting Rights Act actually handed the vote to Trump by closing down so many voting locations that working people, who can’t wait in line for several hours to vote, were unable to cast their vote? I was fortunate – as usual, I stood in a line with one person in front of me, and moved immediately to the booth to vote. But then, our town is almost totally white, so there really wasn’t any need to close down voting places, right? Because only real Americans vote here, move on people, no racism here, not here
Can someone please gag that man? I’m already sick of listening to him, and his presidency isn’t yet a week old. (And he’s like an infant, all “feed me feed me”, no “how are you feeling today?”)
I still can’t get my head around this. I mean, I know that your country is so much bigger than mine, but, still… several hours? I live in a suburb of Manchester and on voting day it takes me a maximum of 15 minutes from putting my coat on to putting the kettle on. The polling station is literally 5 minutes walk down the road, and there is never a queue. I know of at least three other polling stations within a mile of my house. I’m not sure what it’s like in the rural areas, but in urban locations, you are probably never more than half a mile from your nearest polling station.
It should be a fundamental priciple of any democracy that it must be easy to vote. I suppose that we can at least be confident that low turnouts in the UK are down to voter apathy and not to anything else (although I think this Govt has picked up a few tricks from yours – there’s talk of introducing voter ID laws to help curb non-existent voter fraud).
I’ve never had to wait around for long to vote. Maybe a few minutes, a time or two? I’m not sure – but certainly never HOURS. But that’s definitely one way to suppress the vote, and they are using it.
I haven’t either. My longest wait was 75 minutes, when I lived in Oklahoma City. But so many polling places closed this year, a friend of mine in Arizona waited several hours even going to vote early. Because they were retired, they were able to do that.
I had to wait over an hour in an affluent blue leaning suburb of Charleston, SC. My wait to vote for Obama in ’08 was over two hours.
How long will serious Republicans (is that even a thing?) put up with Trump’s delusionality? Will they wait until public opinion forces them or will some brave souls lead the way? I know this show is called Welcome to Fantasy Island, but a guy can dream.
Interesting. So do the long queues to vote have a correlation with areas that tend to vote the wrong way?
Graham – yes. Predominantly communities with large numbers of African Americans, Mexican Americans and other ‘non-American’ ‘dependent on Big Daddy government’ sorts – in short, people who are more likely to vote Democrat
That ‘non-American’ probably should read “‘un-American’, since most of these people are, in the real world, Americans. I used ‘non-American’ because I suspect most Trump voters don’t see them as un-American, but not American at all. Feminists, atheists, and LGBTQ are ‘un-American’
FWIW I’ve never had more than a few minutes wait to vote in any election.
I’ve lived in Canada all my life.
I am increasingly feeling like an alien on my own planet.
