Foxes in charge of all the henhouses
Some reactions to the nomination of Scott Pruitt to run the EPA, seen on Facebook:
When climate change is the great threat to our planet, it is dangerous that Mr. Trump has nominated Scott Pruitt to lead the EPA. Mr. Pruitt’s is not only climate change denier, but also someone who has worked with the fossil fuel industry to actually make this country more dependent on fossil fuels.
Pruitt is well positioned to help Trump dismantle the E.P.A. altogether. Like Trump, Pruitt doesn’t believe the federal government has a role in setting environmental policy.
Trump will be nominating the most radical right-wing cabinet in American history — including an EPA administrator who doesn’t believe in regulating the environment, an Attorney General who doesn’t believe in the Voting Rights Act, a Secretary of Education who doesn’t believe in public education, a Secretary of Housing and Urban Development who doesn’t believe in the Fair Housing Act, and a Secretary of Health and Human Services who doesn’t believe in public health insurance.
And then there’s Trump himself, who doesn’t believe in anything except himself.
If you’re not yet motivated to become part of the Peaceful Resistance starting January 20, I hope these irresponsible appointments galvanize you. We must stand up to this lunacy.
Secular Coalition for America:
President-elect Donald Trump has selected climate change denier Scott Pruitt to head the E.P.A. The announcement comes the day after 800 climate and energy scientists submitted a letter to the incoming president urging him to “take immediate and sustained action against human-caused climate change.”
It should be re-named the Environmental Destruction Agency now. Its current name will just be a lie as of January 20th.
So, actively evil it is.
Trump may have shallow, tawdry, lowbrow dreams of “expanding his brand”, but it’s the toadies and hangers on coming out of the woodwork with the deeper, damaging plans and axes to grind that will cause the most damage.
Boeing had a slight dig at Trump and he immediately retaliated by slamming them on twitter; 800 scientists urge him to take action on climate change and he almost immediately appoints the most anti-science climate change denier he can find to head the EPA. This is a pattern we’ve seen right from the start of his campaign; people who know what they’re talking about offer up good advice and his reaction is to do the exact opposite. He is a person who refuses to admit he’s ever wrong and who refuses to take advice because he thinks that nobody got schmartz like the Donald’s got schmartz.
In short, he thinks and acts like a pre-school child. Isn’t it time America started to treat him like one when it comes to getting him to do the right thing? Any parent will tell you; reverse psychology is the way forward.
Want a decent, fair education system? Tell him that private-only is the way forward.
Want environment protection? Tell him to pollute everything in sight.
It’s got to be worth a try, you couldn’t make things worse by any stretch of the imagination.
Acolyte – that very thing had occurred to me, that he had reacted that way precisely because of the letter. He must be the smartest guy in the room, and he will show everyone else how they are ignorant and losers. I have a brother and a brother-in-law just like that. My brother will even do something in his own worst interest just to do it differently than the advice he received from someone he knows is not as smart as he is – and since that category includes everyone in the solar system, he has ended up doing many things the wrong way.
I have no doubt he voted for Trump.
It has just occurred to me that Trumpspeak and the Bible have something very fundamental in common. Every word is the absolute truth….until proven otherwise, at which time their respective supporters will rush to tell you that yes, every word is true apart from that bit, which is metaphor or analogy or true in some ‘special’ sense of true, but definitely, positively not wrong.
