The biggest lie so far
I will fight to ensure that every American is treated equally, protected equally, and honored equally. We will reject bigotry and hatred and oppression in all of its forms, and seek a new future of security, prosperity and opportunity – a future built on our common culture and values as one American people.
“We will reject bigotry and hatred” – !!! Would you believe it?!
On another post he bragged that someone said he was Reaganesque. He appended a photo of his reaction.
Well, you see, when you define “American” a certain way and squint…
Well since Reagan was one of the worst presidents since Taft (ignorant, stupid, lazy, unenergetic and corrupt – remember Iran-Contra? remember Reagan doing deals with drug smugglers to get arms for his Nicaraguan insurgents? remember 130-odd members of his administration were either convicted or indicted – a record in American history AFAIK?) it isn’t much to smirk about although there may well be similarities.
I see he has instructed his spray-tan technician to switch from Overprocessed Cheese Orange to Overcooked Poptart Brown. Closer to human colour, so I guess it is progress.
It ‘s not a lie. He means what he says. It’s just that the word “American” is not explicitly being defined in the expected way. That’s where the prevarication comes in. He knows that his audience is going to assume one of two things; he either means just the people who are like themselves, or everybody in America. Of course everything he’s said has indicated that he means the former. It is a thoroughly human failing not to parse what is heard made worse when the implications of not doing so mean being able to give over to confirmation bias. trump’s chumps seem well suited to this behavior either by an unwillingness or an inability to do otherwise.
