Baby-whispering
Speaking of the Trump-Obama rivalry over our relations with the great nation of Babies – Buzzfeed has a compilation of photos of Obama meeting with the citizens of said nation. Most of them are by Pete Souza, the official White House camera guy.
I like this one.
And this one of course is a classic.
And I loved the tiara one.
I will really miss him.
I’ll admit to feeling conflicted about Obama. His presidency has not been what I think many of us expected or wanted. I suspect that Obama would privately admit to that as well.
He has continued on, and in some cases strengthened, many of the domestic and foreign policies of George W. Admittedly he inherited a war I’m sure he didn’t want and would have preferred to exit. There are consequences both political and real world to simply walking away from a war though, so I suspect he took the route that seemed the lesser of evils and committed to them. His continuation of the widespread domestic and foreign eavesdropping and erosion of privacy and liberty that resulted is inexcusable.
On the other hand he managed to force through the most significant change to healthcare and gay rights seen in decades in the US over the concerted efforts of a deeply antagonistic congress and senate. If he had been lucky enough to have a supportive congress it makes you wonder what might have been achieved. The energy and time expended dealing with domestic obstruction must have been huge.
I don’t understand why people vote for representatives who hate government and want to make it fail into government. It’s deeply self destructive. I hope Clinton is elected and has a more supportive congress. I hope she then makes constructive use of it that markedly improves the lives and prospects of those who need it.
Forgive me if I keep breathing while I wait.
Yeah. Many flaws in the actions. But as a human being…well.
Yes, that’s a big redeeming feature.
