Model arguments
I was going to leave it there, but then I clicked on the “more comments” button and there are so many that are so horrific I’m going to add a few more. Pink News on Facebook flagging up its own story on something Germaine Greer said about trans women.
Scott Sherman Cocker spaniel? I never thought she was as pretty as a dog, nor as kind are loyal. Will somebody please tell this irrelevant cunt to shut up
Hellen Back Lets have Mz Greer put to sleep shall we.
Lucinda Ferguson miserable cow , getting paid for being miserable and stupid
Nicholas Marshall to be fair.. she does look like a dog… woof woofKevin Oliver I’ve said it before. She was worth listening to 50 years ago. Now she has nothing to say and spends far too much time saying it. She’s little more than a geriatric Katie Hopkins.
Christina Engela …she could call herself a ‘bitch’. She should.
Darren Lee Layton Hurry up and die you wretched waste of oxygen and space.
Huw Williams you could also call yourself an ugly cunt who talks shite
Dave Edwards What a foul, bitter old hag!!!!!Don Joiner She will say anything about anything as long as she sees her name in the press Tired worn out old HAG
Mikey Mcmahon Sure you can… and I can call you a sad old cunt, but only I’d be right!
And more of the same, and then it devolves into mostly one-word blurts – bitch! hag! cunt!
Because these guys are all so very progressive.
Of course; because the more progressive you are the smaller and more predictable your vocabulary becomes.
Gee, how dare such an OLD woman have an opinion that is different from the younger generation? She has none of the experience of living that they have; she has no where near the level of understanding of the world – damn, this is disgusting.
I don’t have to agree with everything someone says to consider them valuable as a human being, and I would not devalue someone like this because I disagree with their opinion. I might even take a few minutes to consider what they have to say, and see how it stacks up against my own point of view, which, like most of us, has probably been absorbed by osmosis from the world around me rather than arrived at by study and careful thought. The vast majority of our sincerely held opinions are that way – acquired, and often defended, without real thought. For most of us, there are only a handful of issues which we’ve really spent any time studying in depth. That often doesn’t stop us from going around telling other people (even experts) how wrong they are, and how poor their thought processes are.
I think this quote by Charles Darwin sums it up rather nicely:
To borrow from Alethea in an earlier comment, where are the cries of, “my trans activism will be intersectional or it will be bullshit”?
It seems transphobic feminism = bad; misogynistic trans activism = good.
(Don’t think I don’t find Greer’s “wrong opinion” (to quote the previous post) bigoted, I do. But I’m likewise appalled by all the ‘bitch’ing and ‘cunt’ing.)
Silentbob, don’t forget:
ageist trans activism = good
#NotAllTransActivists
Because obviously. I’m glad a number of trans activists seem not to give a microfuck about the Feminist-Trans Wars, because y’know, that would get in the way of actually doing something.
PatrickG’s confusion w.r.t. trans issues, as expressed by some people:
(1) Identify enormous issue requiring massive attention.
(2) Decide feminists are to blame.
(3) ???
(4) Pass ENDA.
Substitute anything you like for #4.
It wasn’t just any old “something” that Greer said about trans women – it was bigoted, ignorant rubbish, a swear-laden rant comparing trans gender people to wanting to be cocker spaniels (in addition to the hurtful nonsense she has already pulled over the years, like calling trans women “ghastly parodies of real women” and trying to get a colleague kicked out of college for being transgender).
These comments on the Pink News article are horrifying, misogynistic and disgusting. There’s still no need to downplay what Greer actually said.
