Off with her head
Does god hate women? Do Republicans hate women?
Georgia State Rep. Bobby Franklin—who last year proposed making rape and domestic violence “victims” into “accusers”—has introduced a 10-page bill that would criminalize miscarriages and make abortion in Georgia completely illegal. Both miscarriages and abortions would be potentially punishable by death: any “prenatal murder” in the words of the bill, including “human involvement” in a miscarriage, would be a felony and carry a penalty of life in prison or death.
Isn’t that interesting? So a woman has a miscarriage…will the cops be pounding on her door wanting to find out if there was any human involvement in that miscarriage? If so, how will she demonstrate that there wasn’t? Multiply by a large number, given how common miscarriage is.
There seems to be no chance such a law will be passed, but the filthiness of the mind that suggested it is worth noticing. Malevolence is always worth noticing.
Such insanity. More conceptions end in miscarriage than in birth… usually at the blastocyst stage. Hope he’s prepared to get out his microscope and delve through lots of menstrual fluid.
If I were a woman in Georgia, I would feel much safer knowing Mr Franklin had such an intense interest in my uterus.
Margaret, you aren’t just whistling Dixie.
Feministe is featuring a form letter you (well, some of you) can send Mr. Franklin offering to include your used tampons and pads. http://www.feministe.us/blog/
Ooh, thanks, Julia. I think everyone should send it, whether they can realistically offer any used tampons or not!
It’s offering to include photographs of used tampons etc; sending the real thing in the mail is sending a biohazard and could get you in jail so don’t do it; they were emphatic about that.

Thanks. In my haste to post I neglected to note that detail. Of course, going through all that biological material would have created lots of jobs in law enforcement, not to mention all the additional executioners they would need. I wonder if they would be members of a public sector union. Or would the Republicans try to privatize it all?
But of course! The whole thing would be contracted out to Enron Biohazard Forensic Services Ltd, which is based in the Mariana Islands.
All done in the name of morality of course.
Conservatives feel deeply that they’re moral, while I can only conclude that the more conservative they are the more immoral they become. And the reason why is that they become hopelessly detached from their emotions as they suppress them. And it is those emotions that contribute toward a moral understanding of social interactions. That’s why conservatives require all sorts of rules, regulations and etiquette to function with people at all. Below the veneer surface of ordered tidiness is a chaotic dysfunctional human. That is why they’re embarrassing to listen to, because there is an elephant in the room and the conservative fails to spot it: their pathetic immaturity.
The more fixed and rigid social hierarchies become, the more conservative they are. Until that awful dysfunctional and corrupt system inevitably falls apart as the next generation exposes its embarrassing delusions. No surprise that at the top of these pyramids are rich men (or boys) while women are a constant reminder of their suppressed emotions and therefore expelled into the private realm.
That is why language, or its control and censorship is so important to the conservative mindset. Emotional language is abstracted and objectified and regulated to rid it of its base and vulgar terms for the higher more noble and virtuous of the emotional cripple. Language is the key to confronting conservatives, and that is why strident aggressive shrill atheists who openly voice their criticisms are such a damn threat.
And yet people will vote for this a$$0. I think it’s occasions like these that the so called moderates have so much to answer for.
I remember back in grade one or two therewere always some kids who were so utterly rule bound that they acted as Kapos for the teacher…..you know the kid who sees you do something utterly insignificant and says “I’m going to tell on you!” Some of these little shits grow up to be fascist politicians.
That somebody would actually propose some nonsense like this – you know it would have had to be in one, or more, of: Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama or Texas…
The drug warriors would get behind this. They’re always looking for new ways to do chemical searches on people’s bodies.
I know someone who was under sedation during labor and a doctor kept pressing her about what drugs she had taken in the past year (and this was not the south)
Interesting that the bill speaks of ‘human involvement’ in a miscarriage give that a miscarriage would presumably always involve a woman and also a foetus. It doesn’t surprise me that Franklin regards women as less than human but I am intrigued by his tacit admission that the miscarried foetus is not fully human.
