“A case of mistaken identity”
I don’t know how Leo Igwe keeps going, I really don’t.
Leo Igwe, an activist arrested last Tuesday in the ongoing onslaught against child rights activists by the Akwa Ibom State government, was released today by the Police who claimed it was a case of mistaken identity.
Confirming his freedom in a telephone chat with Saharareporters, Mr. Igwe described his incarceration as a nasty experience.
It was a terrible encounter and it was premeditated going by the way they executed the plot to hold me accountable for “kidnapping;” my hands were tied behind me and they beat me mercilessly,” he said.
Martin Robbins has a good, longish piece on the subject today. More publicity, which could make it harder for people to bully Leo and his parents and siblings; excellent.

All those self-absorbed religiots in the UK, USA, Canada and elsewhere in teh west, who complain about being persecuted should live just one day of Leo Igwe’s life
What an utterly proud and brave activist he is indeed! There’s nothing slightly armchair-ish about him. He speaks out of the centre of his mouth – not the side of it. When he writes, you know instantaneously that he’s been there and worn the tee- shirt.
I dearly hope that his family have recovered from the inhumane treatment at the hands of some very nasty people in Nigeria. The perpetrators’ behaviour was totally diabolical and un-called for; they should be rounded up and made face the full rigours of the real law – not theirs. Unfortunately, Leo, it is not a very good start to your new year – is it?
Leo Igwe is a true hero.
Besides publicity, what sort of help does he need?
I’ll ask him that next time I hear from him. Someone at Facebook asked me the same question.
Meanwhile donating to Stepping Stones Nigeria would be one possibility.
