Is there any point to this endless whining about the Sisters of Mercy? Not a single nun has been charged, still less convicted of anything, in relation to Goldenbridge (or indeed anywhere else.) Can the people concerned supply any evidence apart from their whining? If not isn’t it about time you gave it a rest?
I wish I could complain about touch and caring aaat U of M Fairview. 64 days of hell. My boyfriend went in for a Kidney/Pancreius transplant and it was horror from then on. They have signs all around that say We are not a tem without patients and families partisapation. Are they kidding, they no more want to hear what you have to say , than they want your questions.I tapped the nurses and doctors and it is not a very nice situation. Anyone who wants to talk about this call 320-510-1469.
Father?Rory O’Connor, You are both cruel heartless and uncareing of fellow human beings, next time you walk around the city and turn your nose up at the homeless older person sitting alone in their suffering That person probably is that child who was raped,Battered, Starved ,Tortured, neglected stolen from their families, siblinga, roots,by those so called religious friends of yours and left damaged . HAVE YOU NO HEART. GOD SAW EVERYTHING.
I am reading the italian translation of your very interesting and clear:
“Incompleteeness”. If you allow me, I have a question: at page 111 of the italian translation, you use the term “logica limpida” (clear) intstead of “first order logic”.
What distinguishwes this tipo of propositional logic?
Sorry, but your entry Ethnomathematics ( http://www.vcstar.com/news/2010/jan/24/mayan-numbers-taught-in-somis-school-to-help/) didn’t deserve your contempt. All that happens is that the children are taught about different number systems- a valuable and useful exercise. Fifty years ago I tried to do arithmetic using the Roman number system and practised with the decimal and duodecimal systems too. Exactly the same principle applies here. As the teachers say, it’s an interesting and useful exercise.
dear Leo! it’s so good to hear you and I like what you are writing. I’ve seen it all in Nigeria and you were so kind.I sincerely hope your struggle against ignorance will be won one day, but I’m afraid this day will not be soon. Goodbye friend!
I would like to say – ‘well done’ and a big thank you on your very articulate Irish radio 106 Newstalk interview (Sunday week) with Carol Coleman. I could have been tuned into B&W, it was that informative on Muslim issue,s from a human rights perspective. You certainly outshone the other two interviewees by a long margin. Keep up the good human rights work.
Just a brief comment on Gita Sahgal’s very passionate article. I am surprised that AI thinks it appropriate to suspend a prominent staffer who has serious concerns about AI’s activity. Does AI not know that this raises serious questions of reliability for ordinary members of the public? If they don’t, then they had better learn, because we rely on AI and Human Rights Watch, etc., to be above criticism on these issues. Thanks, Gita, for your article.
Re Edmund Standings essay for the histooricity of Jesus Christ:
Standings article is a push-back against a determined and growing tide of independent scholars who are making the case for the Mythical, ie, non historical Christ. His response is typical of those who argue for a historical core to the myth, in that it relies on the very myth under question as a proof source. He falls sway to the emotional illogic that after the crazy miracle stuff is peeled away, there must be a real person underneath. In other words, he basically assumes that there’s just gotta be a pony someplace, just look at all the horseshit that is around here!
His article consists of an less than persuasive assertion that what is attributed to Jesus sounds true to him, and then presents the case of Haile Selassie as an example of a real person behind the myth.
Well, so what?
Undeniably, there are some myths with a historical core. But there are also many myths without an historical core. Indeed, today there is a growing religious cult already 15 million strong worshiping a contemporary messiah – who does not exist!
The tide of interested atheists promulgating the likely non historicity of Jesus Christ is growing because the more one investigates the issue, the more apparent is the shocking paucity of any reliable historical evidence for the historical Jesus, while at the same time one’s ineluctable realization is that the Mythicist hypothesis fits the available evidence much better.
I am absolutely astounded at what ive just read, utterly saddened in disbelief and am at a loss for words of the sheer depravation all thoes poor children endured. Im angry as to why that torture was allowed to be carried out by a supposedly, religious group…to me the most viscious, selfish, bitter voilent people that ever walked the face of the earth, and I am compelled to say sorry for all you had to go through, and I understand that sometimes there is no help that could cure your tortured lives and minds.
I was educated by the same people although they were nothing like the ones that governed you and I grew up in Ireland but it was nothing like the Ireland you merely existed in. I hope you will find peace somehow somewhere in your lives and minds and Im thankful that you have the strength and courage to voice your horrendous experiences and continue to make progress.
I am speechless after reading your story. The atrocities in this institution are nothing short of a childhood holocaust.
With the Dublin horrors, and scandals in the US and elsewhere I continue to ask myself, “Why hasn’t anyone held the nuns accountable? What contributed to their cruelty and lack of compassion? These were tortured souls masquerading as “Brides of Christ”.
I am so terribly sorry that this was allowed to happen to you and others. Know that my prayers will be with you from this day forward. May you find peace and continued courage to speak to the world. Only good can come from your truth. May God Bless you, dear.

Thank you for your excellent article, Sharon. When one mostly talks about Magdalen girls and women one must never ever forget that there were also lots of innocent babies somewhere belonging to them deliberately hidden quietly in the background. They have not been given much thought or voice by the media and also by the Irish government. One of the reasons being (imho) is that the latter does not want to open up a can of worms by acknowledging them — despite the fact that a mother and baby home in Bertie Ahern’s constituency was put on the redress board. The Magdalen laundry women’s children, who, inevitably would have ended up in industrial schools (and that too of babies who were placed in other mother and babies homes, such as the Regina Ceoli Hostel in Nth Brunswick St. should definitely be recognised for any suffering that occurred to them as babies. I spent my childhood in Goldenbridge. Google butterfliesandwheels.com and read account of life in that ghastly hell-hole.

very interesting,is there any reference of silassie talking about his race, specifically about being black in part?
That Muhammad, a delusional first century Arab who thought the God of the Jews was speaking to him, was not a Muslim.
I believe he was born in the 6th century, and died in the 7th century. Am I wrong?
