One is usually only sick of the sound of one’s own voice when it is the only thing one hears. But your recent thoughts have received numerous reactions, many of them lengthy and thoughtful.
One thought from me…for perfectly understandable reasons you’ve been very serious lately. how about a few light-hearted sallies?
Whatever, don’t give up. Caffeine and you are what get my brain working in the morning.
OB, I am still reading. If I disagree or have something to add, or even if I’m just feeling grumpy, I’ll comment, but when I agree absolutely I really do not see the point in saying so. After all, my assertion that you are correct adds nothing to the argument. It is undoubtedly presumptuous of me, but I suspect all those smart people who have commented above feel much the same.
Good idea, Phil! (she says, snickering away). It’s that Graham Chapman bit – ‘I’ll now say it in a high squeaky voice like this.’ I’ll just do it in a different voice each time – announced in a bracket at the beginning. [in the voice of Edward G Robinson – ‘Key Largo’ period as opposed to ‘Little Caesar’ period] Something like that.
Thanks, all. I, er, I seem to have more readers than I realized. Thought I had perhaps two on a busy day. Anyway P Z has it right: who cares whether I like it or not? Whiney self-indulgent bedwetter.
I’m still listening. And at least on my blogroll (or rather, list of blog bookmarks), you are the only one covering this particular beat, warning about oversensitivity to religious concerns.
Adding my voice to the chorus … I visit several times a week, but don’t often comment because (a) I have nothing intelligent to add, and (b) when I do, somebody else has usually beaten me to it. But despite my intellectual feebleness, N&C is my favourite blog – in fact, it’s the only blog I read at all regularly.
And if the best thing to come out of this thread has been OB’s shelving of any silly impulses to talk less, then Chris’s comment must run it a very close second.
As I said before – thanks, all. (What makes anyone think I didn’t just go fishing?)
I wasn’t threatening to shut up shop! Do I look as if I’m planning to shut up shop? (Yes I know you can’t see me, use your imagination.) I was just expressing a – momentary mood. You wouldn’t want me to dote on the sound of my own voice every single second would you? That would be intolerable!
for what it’s worth, i enjoy it immensely. keep up the great work.
I second that, Louis. Keep talking OB!
Loud and clear, please.
Who cares whether you like it or not? We’re here for it.
Whichever of the above methods it takes (sympathetic, encouraging or brutal), don’t throw in the towel, please.
Your voice sounds great! Keep on talking.
Take heart Ophelia: it looks like you have a fan club.
Take care.
Ophelia

I’d miss N&C very much if you went quiet, but if it feels stale don’t be afraid to unplug, refresh and come back fighting!
For what it’s worth, I’m not at all sick of reading your thoughts.
Now when was the last big post? Two days ago already! I open N&C and find I already read it!
May I add my voice to those who have not tired of hearing yours?
You’re entitled. It’s your voice.
Didn’t you have a co-blogger here at some point? Some other voice in the hall?
I concur with all the above. Please caryy on noting and indeed commenting!!!!
Persevere, please.
Ophelia:
Then use a different voice, that’s all. Maybe a lilting French accent, or the refined tone of a Southern belle?
But whatever voice you use, it’s the thought behind it that counts. So speak in whatever voice you want, but do keep speaking, please.
Phil

Emm… why don’t you just go fishing?

If threatening to shut up shop can generate a ONE LINE e-mail from john c. halasz, maybe you should do it more often :))
