Epistolary
I don’t know if you ever have a look at our Letters page, but if you don’t, you might want to. There are some very interesting letters in there – some of them are brief articles in themselves. I’ve just seen one of that kind, the one at the top of the page (at the moment), a short essay on the Whig interpretation of history and moral relativism (taking issue with an article of ours on the subject), by one Michael Davis. If I had the faintest idea who he was or how to email him, I would ask him if he would like to write an article for us. I wonder if he is the same MD as the MD who wrote some previous letters and quite a few comments here. Anyway, his letter is well worth a read.
Ophelia, is there any direct link to the letters page within the site, or is it effectively hidden? I know i’ve read it before, but it could have been through a freshly baked link in N&C. Anyway, you’re right – it is worth reading – maybe make it more visible?
There’s a great big link to it on the front page of the site (with a graphic!). Bottom right of the page.
It’s also linked to after every article.
I’m not sure we’d want more than that…
Duh. You’re quite right. I just skim over the graphics on sites as they all look like adverts to me!
Ah, we don’t have adverts (except some TPM things).
I don’t want to make the letters page too prominent. We primarily want letters about our articles; if we encourage people to write letters, then we’ll be flooded with spam, people telling us how quantum mechanics can be harnessed with the properties of marmite to solve the hard problem of consciousness, that kind of thing.
Oh dear, I would so like to read the quantum mechanics-marmite hypothesis. (No, I know, I wouldn’t really. But it does sound enthralling.)
No, I’m not the author of the letter you reference, although I’ve written a couple of others. I will check out the letter you mentioned by Davis.
I was hit by hurricane Frances and haven’t had power for 6 days, so I’ve been off the net; I couldn’t have posted if I had wanted to.
Oh dear, sorry to hear that. Hope you didn’t lose a roof or any walls or anything.
Yes, I knew you’d written a couple of letters. Maybe that’s what made me think of it – well that and the initials, of course. If yours had been QM it wouldn’t have occurred to me.
