CNN on Trump’s noisy claims that Panama owes him a canal:
Panama President José Raúl Mulino posted a lengthy statement in Spanish and English on social media declaring ownership of the port “not negotiable.” Built at the turn of the 20th century, the canal was operated by the US until 1999, when it was fully turned over to Panama under a treaty signed by President Jimmy Carter two decades prior that guaranteed American use of the canal in perpetuity.
“I want to express precisely that every square meter of the Panama Canal and its adjacent area belong to Panama, and will continue to,” Mulino wrote.
The response did little to discourage Trump and his allies, though, who responded with memes and images on social media doubling down on his latest cause.
“Welcome to the United States Canal,” Trump posted on Truth Social, along with a picture of a US flag sailing on the waterway.
So if decorators redo the “salon” at Mar a Lago does that make the salon theirs?
If Trump hires a crew to build a house in Obama’s back garden does that make the house his? If Obama hires a crew to build a house at Mar a Lago does that make the house his?
Is Trump consistent in his claims about who owns what? Does he think all builders own what they build, while the owners of the land they build on are just tenants or trespassers?
Just curious.
Here’s where a little bit of real “moral clarity” in headline writing is advisable. Of course CNN is also part of the subservient media, so why would they be honest and say that he’s threatening in the headline? The threat is mentioned in the piece but still…
CNN’s headline: “Trump is teasing US expansion into Panama, Greenland and Canada”
“US expansion”? As though the US is just going to walk in & take over, as Putin hoped to do in Ukraine (with the help of a few tanks). Any such “expansion” would involve full-scale invasion. And there is that ‘teasing’. CNN’s headline is as despicable & infantile as Trump’s threats.
Maybe Trump could buy the canal with the US Bitcoin reserve while the bitcoins are still on the rise, and before the rush for the exit starts and that whole house of cards collapses 1929-style.

OK, so I am wondering which Russian social media account suggested that Trump should focus on Panama. It’s such a bizarre idea, but exactly the kind of thing which Putin would love – making Trump do whatever will destabilise relationships between the USA and its allies. Along with resurrecting the insane Greenland scheme, Trump is starting out even more bizarrely than last time. I only hope that there are enough sane adults left in the USAian diplomatic corps to convince the targets of Trump’s ravings that he is merely distracting his followers, and that nothing will come of it – like that border wall.
