Ah yes the normal, reasonable, moderate version of thinking men can be women.
Contrary to Wu’s ridiculous “if”, the reality is that JKR has no power to “force” Wu to “live as a man.” Nobody has that power, because the whole idea is meaningless. We don’t “live as” primates or mammals or vertebrates, we just live. We are what we are. Wu is what he is.
It’s not “extreme” to know that men are women, and it’s not extreme to say so. It’s just life. It’s childish to try to force the world at large to play let’s pretend about what sex a man is.
And then of course the punchline where he has the brass neck to hope JKR will go on his “show” – well of course you do, bro, but that’s one of those “would look better on your cv than on mine” items.
What he’s really saying is “None of us would be happy if you refuse to give us access to female only spaces.” That’s the “if” that Rowling and other women do have power over (theoretically at least; as we’ve seen, the reality can be rather different), and women are supposed to surrender to Wu and his buddies in order to keep them from being “unhappy.” That is women’s duty and obligation. Denial of that access is what is, in Wu’s mind, going to “force him to live as a man.”
But of course, as soon as he enters a female only space, it stops being a female only space. Just as male cheaters on women’s sports teams only have an adventage when they are the only ones on a given team, men accessing women’s spaces would be “unhappy” if everyone else in that space was a TiM, because the validation they crave is only possible when they are “accepted as women” by actual women. This is why tras activists have consistently rejected trans bathroom facilities, because despite their claims, it is not the case that “all they want to do is go pee.” They could go pee in facilities designed exclusively for trans use. But that is not acceptable. They want access to women’s spaces; that is quite different.

Hey “Brianna”, here’s a news flash: women can and do talk about ANYTHING. There’s nothing they can talk about that makes them stop being women, even a little bit. If they decide to discuss sports, trucks, and hunting they don’t suddenly become less female while they’re treating of those subjects. On the flip side, there’s no possible subject of discussion that Wu & Co. could choose that will ever make them somehow more female and less male. Same with clothing, make-up, comportment, drugs, hormones, or surgery. Because their goal of becoming women is impossible, stereotypes are all they can ever have, and they will never be enough. “Passing” isn’t being. Fooling some people for a few moments does not mean you’ve somehow “arrived” at womanhood. You can’t get there from here. Male you are and male you shall remain. That’s just how things are. Nobody is to blame. JK Rowling can’t fix this; she’s not withholding “womanhood” or “femaleness” from you. It’s just the way material reaity happened to shake out for you. You might blame evolution for preventing you from being a member of any of those species that can change sex, but it won’t get you anywhere. You might fool Sally Hines, but you can’t fool Mother Nature.
These men will never be more than “acting like” what they think women “act like” , when women can do whatever the hell they want without having to worry about remaining their sex. There is quite literally nothing these men can do that will get them a micron “closer” to being a woman than they are now, ever have been, and ever will be. These men will never be more than a delusional parody. They might as well be pantomime horses, pawing at their straw, dreaming of running in the Kentucky Derby. Because their goal of becoming women is impossible, stereotypes are all they can ever have.
*And I’l bet even she is only “being kind” and pretending, because somehow she believes her politics demands this of her. But it’s a matter of conscious will on her part, a voluntary suspension of disbelief, or acquiescence to TiM delusion, not a recognition of any kind of reality. If she ever needed a surrogate to carry a baby for her, she would know to not waste her time going to Wu for the favour. She’s not that stupid.
No one is forcing or even requesting such a thing of them. We are pointing out that male people are men and so trans women are men. If the TRA position is that the words man and woman are not references to the sex of the individual, then asking a trans woman to use the male amenities is not an implication that they are actually a man. To claim this, the TRA is necessarily implicitly accepting that the words are linked to sex.
Wrong on at least two counts:
1. No person can force you to “live as men.” Reality forces that on you, because you are men, and there’s no other way, by definition, for you to live than “as men,” regardless of what stereotypes you prefer to follow. However you live, it can only and ever be “as a man.” It’s absolutely unavoidable.
2. Lots of people would be happy if you came to terms with the reality that, however you live, you necessarily must do so ” as a man.” I’d venture to say that even many TIMs would be much happier if they recognized this reality, regardless of what they like to wear or how they prefer to present themselves.
Lots of people would be happy if TiMs simply admitted that they are not women, and stopped invading women’s spaces and stealing women’s resources. If these men did this, most of this conflict would evaporate, because they’re the aggressors.
