Here’s a leaflet for the kids
Why why WHY is this dreck being handed out in schools??? Aren’t schools supposed to be responsible about what they teach? Isn’t that a core part of their function? It’s not really education if it’s a pack of lies, is it.
Boys and men don’t have periods. Telling children they do is malpractice. Boys don’t have sore breasts or bloating. Girls who “don’t identify as” girls are girls nevertheless. Girls who don’t identify as human are human nevertheless. Girls who do identify as trees or cars or parakeets are not trees or cars or parakeets. There is no magic. Time to wake up now.
Another terrible bit of writing. Is it the people or the periods that are not identifying with a gender? I know we know the meaning from context, but still, where has writing clarity gone lately?
Couple of places. One, Twitter, which encourages poor writing by discouraging use of proper sentence structure. Two, the idea that ‘feelings’ are more important than style. If a student is ‘authentic’, that is more important than if their gobbledygook is readable.
Trust me, I taught English for a few semesters, and I also required writing in my science classes. Students are shocked, absolutely shocked, to learn it isn’t okay to cut and paste their paper from the internet; they never got in trouble for it in high school, why shouldn’t they be able to do it in college?
Overworked teachers who don’t have time to check every sentence against the internet, coupled with parents and administrators who fly into a rage if the teacher hurts a student’s feelings have joined to make a hash of writing.
Not to mention that if you write word salad, it’s harder for anyone to argue with you, because they have no clue what you just said.
