The diversity service
Man who pretends to be a woman wins service award. What’s his “service”? Pretending to be a woman, of course.
Humbled? I bet he’s not a bit humbled.
Diversity! So much diversity! Large white man who pretends to be a woman: what could be more diversity??!
So so so diversity!
To be fair, he does have a great deal to be humble about….
That usage of “humbled” to mean something like “honored” always irritates me. I suppose people think “I’m getting this great thing, and I’m supposed to be humble about it, so I say I’m humbled”. What would really be humbling would be “Steph was nominated for this Women’s Award, but Steph can’t win, because the award is only open to women, so the award goes to…”.
I am sorry to be so petty but these guys are always so effing enormous.
I cannot hear ‘humble’ now without thinking of Trump being interviewed during his election campaign. The interviewer said something about religious voters not seeing him as a humble person, to which he replied ‘Oh, I’m humble. I’m so humble. Nobody is more humble than Donald Trump’.
It seems that this guy has about as much understanding of the word’s meaning as does the Donald.
Gosh. If that mountain of a man is a woman then I’m a gerbil.
There should be an award for Superlative Humility.
People who are impervious to humiliation couldn’t possibly know what being humble means. It’s just a word to them, like the words woman and feminist are to trans ideologues. Clueless.
I was just thinking about this in regards to Willy Thomas, Rhys McKinnon and others of their stripe. I wonder where their sense of fairness or regard for others is when they stand on a podium in front of everyone, after having cheated, and lack whatever quality it is to not feel ashamed or embarrassed. I think that quality is humility, or something very like it. In my opinion this complete lack of humility points to an acutely antisocial disposition.
twiliter, it’s the Cult of Self. ‘I am the only person who matters. The role of everybody else is to make way and validate me’.
AoS, I think so, and the Age of Social Media has revealed (probably promoted) so much more of it nowadays. I find it revolting.
It also occurs to me that by competing as women against women they have found a way to not only cheat their way to victory and not only to do so openly, but to be actively encouraged and lauded for doing so. They have stumbled across the Holy Grail of cheats.
As for lacking shame, the closing scenes of the movie, Ice Age, come to mind. Diego, the sabre-toothed cat, has decided to travel with the mammoth, Manny, and Sid, the sloth. Because Diego is in pain after his fight against his old pack Manny offers to carry him:
Diego: ‘No thanks. I’m saving what little dignity I’ve got left’.
Sid: ‘You’re hanging out with us now, pal. Dignity has nothing to do with it’.
