Bold and daring
One becomes stupider by reading this sludge:
A bold and daring new play from one of Australia’s leading trans voices.
Bold? Daring? It’s a hit piece on JK Rowling. About as daring in Melbourne as wearing shoes.
Anna Piper Scott stars in a controversial new work that asks, “How did one of the world’s most celebrated authors become one of the most hated?”
She didn’t. The fact that some ignorant self-involved “activists” hate her doesn’t make her one of the world’s most hated authors. Trump has his name on books. Thousands of fervently hated people have written books. Rowling is way down that list.
In this rare and exclusive literary event, join world-renowned children’s author JK (as played by Anna Piper Scott) for an exclusive, hard hitting one-on-one interview. Her books have been read and loved worldwide, and her magical world lives in the hearts of millions of adults and children. However, in recent years, her novels have receded into the background as her controversial political views have taken centre stage.
Some consider her to be the saviour of modern feminism. Others consider her to be the face of a hate movement.
Yes, all 37 of them.
Surely the trans-activist, trans-cheer-squad has more committee mambers than that, just for starters. There would have to be that number of trans-sexual transvestites just in Transylvania alone. And maybe even some of those are Rowling fans, and are fond of Harry Potter.
So, a trans identified male author is going to purport to speak for JK Rowling, to explain the presuppositional universe in which Rowling’s novels “recede into the background” because nothing about Rowling matters any more except trans claims that Rowling is a promoter of “hate”?
Rowling has never said anything hateful about or to trans people and their advocates. Talk about a work of fiction!!
I’m not a big fan of suing people for their speech, Not that I’m an ardent supporter of the1A come what may, but it does have merits. I’m even less of a fan of the UK’s libel laws, which seem designed to support a class structure. I would quite understand if JKR at the very least has her lawyers follow this play rather closely. I’d also place money on a bet that this will be a straw presentation of JKR’s position, and that it is being represented as a play to try and lessen the risk of a defamation suit.
@3 perhaps, but literally playing a real person on stage spouting fictional ‘hate’ is surely on the other side of that legal line. It had better be an ‘exclusive’ event; if it were a public one I hope JKR sues them into the ground.
I’m with you on being uncomfortable with suing… I empathize but do not condone.
I say fight fire with fire; JKR could produce a film or play featuring the people who are producing this, in similarly thin disguise. Change a letter or two of their names. Show people how she has been lied about and misrepresented. Maybe add portrayals of some other little ingrates in cameo roles. Donate admissions to actual feminist and LGB charities who have not adopted the ideology. I think that’s what I would do, see how they like it.
Yes, I’ve become stupider. :(
Kind of reminds me of Dawkins’ Fleas — the bunch of nobodies who rushed out books that were “replies” to The God Delusion, and then demanded that Dawkins debate or respond to them.
Best to ignore them. What they crave is attention and publicity.
I’m extremely bad at not giving attention to people who act like abusive fools because they crave attention. I can never resist giving them attention.
Speaking of abusive fools, a couple of weeks ago, a stray comment by someone reminded me of some ancient B&W history, and I’ve spent some time recently browsing through the archives of things like Tom Johnson/You’re Not Helping, the Intersection, Kw*k and McCarthy, etc.
It was… entertaining, in a way, though probably not the best use of my time! A lot of commenters (and bloggers) I’d forgotten about. Out of curiosity, I also googled what “Tom Johnson” is doing these days — it seems his career survived just fine.
Heh. I’ve done that at least once myself. Definitely entertaining. Remember when “I agree with Polly-O!” was a standing joke? Fun times. Yes, Wally has gone on to have a perfectly ordinary academic career.
