Which marginalised community?
Attitudes.
That drop in support for faking birth certificates is a good thing. It’s good that more people think blatant absurd lies should not be “legally recognized.”
Which twin has the moral panic here? I’d say the moral panic was all the hang-wringing over the poor fragile persecuted men who only wanted to grab everything that belongs to women.
And the trans ideology is not part of that long post-war liberalisation. It’s a parody of it. Men claiming persecution on the basis that they are women inside despite having male bodies is a parody of feminism, not a branch of it.
As for feeling unsafe and unwelcome, has Nancy Kelley been paying any attention at all to how feminist women are treated by trans ideologues and enforcers?
Not to mention the whining about the “years of toxic coverage” she says they’ve suffered. It’s mostly been the reverse of what she claims. That includes the depiction of GC feminists as being “transphobic” and “anti-trans rights” as well as the depiction of TIM sexual offenders as women in news reports about them.
When any media outlets honestly report undeniable facts [such as side-effects from Lupron] as, well, facts, this is further maligned as “transphobic.”
Or much more likely is that people were breezily saying yes to supporting trans people as part of their general desire to help groups they have heard to be marginalised minorities, switching to no later as awareness grew of what ‘support’ for trans people actually entails. Loss of women’s spaces, loss of women’s sports, abiological nonsense, magic thinking, behind-the-scenes pressure to toe the line, and last but not least: the generally abominable behaviour of the entitled shits taking the leadership / activist roles of the movement.
I’m not surprised in the least.
That “not prejudiced at all” number is interesting. It’s so rare for people to admit any kind of prejudice that I wonder what’s going on here. Tempted to speculate that, after years of being told “if you don’t support [X] policy, then you’re transphobic,” that many people have shrugged and said “well, I guess I’m transphobic then.” But that still seems contrary to human nature.
“Press driven moral panic” is a double-pronged lie. There’s no moral panic (unlike hyperbolic claims about trans genocide and suicide, concerns about prioritizing gender identity over sex are rational.) And these concerns sure as fuck ain’t “press driven”–the mainstream UK press ignored gender critical voices for as long as they could. In the US they’re still mostly ignoring us.
Radio 4’s World At One had an interview yesterday with the sister of a young transwomen who took her own life after years of inadequate mental health care. Fell into the gap between provision for children and adults, absurdly long waiting times to see anyone at all, etc. Now, I was in the car and didn’t give it my full attention because I was concentrating on sticking to the new 20 mph everywhere-except-not-quite-everywhere-and-there-is-conflicting-signage-all-over-the-place-so-good-luck speed limit, but as far as I could tell, it was pure propaganda. Presenter described the kid as “assigned male at birth”. All the talk was about how lovely and kind and sweet and gentle she was. How happy she was when everyone played along, and how suicidal when people didn’t. That famous BBC balance? I’m not sure, but I think they felt that was served by telling us about the vile Facebook comments saying it was a good job that the kid was dead and such like. But hey, I’m sure today they will give equal time to a detransitioner to talk about how all the adults and healthcare professionals cheered them along the path to irreversibly damaging their body, right?
