Pronoun emergency aisle 9
Thank god The Independent is on the important news.
Lorraine Kelly repeatedly misgendered Sam Smith while discussing the singer’s look for the Barbie premiere.
*gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasp*
Hosting her ITV daytime show Lorraine on Thursday (13 July), Kelly talked to guest Vogue Williams about the pink carpet hits and misses from Wednesday night’s (12 July) European premiere for Greta Gerwig’s movie.
While the majority of the guests opted for Barbie-inspired all-pink outfits, Smith – who has written a song titled “Man I Am” from the perspective of Ken for the Barbie soundtrack – went for a far more casual look.
What does “more casual than Barbie-inspired all-pink outfits” mean?
Discussing the outfit on Lorraine, Williams joked that Smith looked like they were dressed for an airport rather than a red carpet event.
They who? Smith and Barbie? Smith and the the guests in the Barbie-inspired all-pink outfits?
However, while Williams referred to Smith using they/them pronouns, Kelly referred to the singer repeatedly as “he” and “him”.
“It’s a bit big for him,” Smith said. “If he was my son, I’d be saying, ‘Son, that’s too big for you’… He’s going to stand out. He knows what he’s doing, does that fella.”
On Twitter, viewers branded the moment “awkward” and pointed out that Williams had looked uncomfortable during the segment.
How very important and significant and urgent and consequential.
In response to one critic on Twitter, Kelly insisted that her wording had been unintentional, writing: “Fair comment. Not in the least intentional but will take on board – thanks for bringing to my attention.”
That’s not insisting, it’s just saying.
The Independent has contacted Smith’s representatives, as well as ITV, for comment.
Oh thank god. I was afraid the whole thing might fizzle out because it’s so trivial and ridiculous.
PAGING DOCTOR PURPLE
He’s a man, not a group. When you look at photos of Smith and his wardrobe, you are looking at images of an individual, adult human male. Protestations and demand aside, there is no reason to consider him, or refer to him as anything else. He’s not a collection of people, so he can’t be a “they”. His special non-binary soul doesn’t show up in photos, kinda like vampires don’t show reflections in mirrors, except that the former is not noteworthy while the latter is surprising, which is why it’s a Big Deal in horror stories: it’s proof of vampirism. There is no similar “proof” of non-binariness or transness, or any other flavour of gender identity. It’s like the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist; we’re told it’s there, that Transubstantiation has miraculously occured through the Special Power vested in the officiating priest. With gender identity, its existence is vouchsafed to us (ad nauseum) by activists and allies, the bullying priesthood of this new religion of gendered-soul worship. The only special power they posses is that of institutional capture and its attendant intimidation and misinformation.
As for Smith, we’re expected to remember and keep track of this unique inner essence and recognize its Presence every time we don’t use his name, but instead utter his Holy Pronouns, Peace Be Upon They/Them. Failure to do so, or worse, to use the wrong pronouns, results in condemnation as an Unbeliever who needs to Educate themselves in order to Do Better. In order to do this, you must accept lies and repeat them, willingly and enthusiastically. Silence does not mean consent; as a sin of omission, it renders one suspect. Anything less than full-hearted assent and repitition is bigotry and hatred, which will be sniffed out, hunted down and punished by the Most Marginalized, Helpless, and Victimized Group Ever. Amen.
The Independent has either been captured from within by the Trans Lobby, or more likely IMHO has made a business decision to become a vehicle for same. Stand by for the Trans-Independent.
Side note: I’m so sick of hearing about the “Barbie” movie. It’s rivalling the latest Tom Cruise “Mission Impossible” as the most over-hyped Hollywood production of this year.
Is there a plot twist that she’s a trans laydee?
Not AFAIK. ;)
There’s a transwoman actor, Hari Nef, in the film (you can recognise Nef by the fact Nef sounds like a very camp gay man).
“Barbie’s” main audience is little girls. If they’d made a u-rated film about “Barbie”, I wouldn’t make an issue of it (I’m not the target demographic for Barbie anyway, and I don’t have any daughters or nieces who’d be interested in such a movie).
But the “Barbie” movie film trailers are full of kid-unfriendly jokes about permanently bent feet and sexual harassment.

It seems Greta Gerwig made a “Barbie” movie aimed at clickbait journalists instead of little girls and their nostalgic mothers /aunts /grandmothers. Of course virtue-signalling celebs like Sam Smith are going to want to be associated with it.
“If I can’t control it, then I’ll work to destroy it.” That is the motto/meme of control freaks everywhere.
