BKiSA, just what do you think that would have achieved?
Maybe Iraq would still be a functioning society* with greater freedoms for women than under current rulers, and Pakistan would have been turned into the birthplace of ISIS.
US invasion of other countries have never resulted in a better outcome for the natives, just more $$$ for the elites and the Seppos.
*Saddam Hussein may well have been a vile dictator, however, under his rule Iraq was a secular nation where people were free to practice religion or not, where women could get an education, work, go out in public and where music and art were celebrated. The USA ensured all that would be destroyed and far more people would be oppressed.

Exactly so, and in keeping with the “He may be a bastard, but he’s our bastard,” we choose to remain tight with a regime even more vile and at the same time very oppressive to women for religious reasons. Even after they brutally murdered an American journtalist, their partial ownership of Fox News, and I suspect, the NY Post, gives them access to shape our opinion. They brutally torture and kill dissidents, and regulariy carry out sentences of whipping and beheading in the public square. Yet, our government is so happy with them we look the other way when they take over our professional golf industry and “sportswash” their reputation. *
I wish that the United States could have found a way to prevent the Taliban from taking control, but we couldn’t keep our troops there forever. They’re rat bastards with nothing but hate for women.
*In the late 90s the Dallas Convention Center hosted an exhibit by the Saudi Government and it was truly splendid. There were many displays about their culture and history and it was quite fascinating. They used a lot of gold, and that’s an understatement. But all of the Saudis present as guides curators were men. A woman near us asked why there were no women, and a man replied “If the women were here, who would be caring for the children?”
In fairness, as a chicken hawk I’m very much in favor of going to war with Saudi Arabia… Its continued existence and influence is an affront to the civilized world (plus they’ve got a monarchy!).
Should’ve gone into Pakistan after the buggers and not wasted all that time in Iraq…

Japan worked… But then again they already more or less wanted the nation they would become.
I dunno, freeing women in Kabul for more than twenty years would be nice, as would pushing rural bandits out of the country.
History only ever has a sample size of one, so we’ll never know…
