The BBC “apologises” for soliciting yet more abuse of JK Rowling.
The BBC has apologised for its “poor effort” to resist “baseless accusations” of transphobia against JK Rowling on BBC Radio 4. Stacey Henley, a trans woman and editor-in-chief at The Gamer, said the Harry Potter creator was pushing “transphobia” and a “campaign against trans people”.
Shemade the comments while discussing a new Harry Potter video game called Hogwarts Legacy.
Effort shmeffort. Why seek out men who call themselves women to talk about JKR at all? The BBC doesn’t seek out white people who call themselves Black to talk about race and issues around race, does it? Who cares what some guy who runs a gamer mag thinks about JK Rowling? Why ask him? What’s his expertise or relevance? Why does the BBC go looking for people it knows are going to rant about terfs and transphobia to discuss feminist women? Fuck their “apology.” They got what they were looking for: more abuse of Rowling and thus more bullying of feminist women and women in general.
The quote from the hapless spokesman is “I think perhaps we got stuck because we were actually trying hard NOT to debate @jk_rowling or the substance of her views. We hadn’t intended or cast it that way,”. I think that translates as “Yeah, we brought a knife to a gunfight, but this sort of thing didn’t happen in Lord Reith’s day”.
Oh… I heard the beginning of the program, where they give an overview of what’s coming up, and just in the introduction it was extremely clear that this was just going to be an excuse to get some TRA to slag off JKR. I yelled at the radio for 30 seconds and then turned it off and forgot all about it. I should have known I wouldn’t get away from it that easily ;)
I’m not sure the game is my kind of thing, but I have to say the trailer makes it look pretty good. It’s hilarious that it smashed all records as the most preordered game of all time and is apparently breaking sales records left, right and centre.
Of course, someone has built a site to track people who stream the game on Twitch. This is obviously an incitement to harassment, there’s no other plausible reason to do it.
Unless they’re keeping A List for when the takeover is complete.
