Making any member feel awkward
Lloyd R-M explains that he didn’t move to sit in front of Miriam Cates to intimidate her, no no it’s all a big misunderstanding. Almost no one believes him.
He’s so firm in his conviction that he turned off replies. The quote tweets are…skeptical.
– What a load of absolute codswallop this is.
– Another disciple of the Boris Johnson School of Political Jackanory.
– Absolute BS, this man is a disgrace
– BULLSHIT
– If you want to read some bollocks, here’s some bollocks.
– What a liar!!!
Etc.
Friends, I barely know ye, but I have finally “come out” as . . . binary.
My comment here, at a website I write for: scroll to comments.

So his remarks were a mistake, but he stands by the words. Right… as for that pathetic excuse for why he sat where he did – literally unbelievable.
Mike B, read your comment – and the comment on your comment. Your comment is good, solid, etc. The comment on your comment? Not so much.
The question the commenter asks initially is easy. No, even with HRT and surgery, mammals cannot change sex. They may have some superficial characteristics of the opposite sex, but NO, THEY DID NOT CHANGE SEX. THEY ONLY CHANGED THEIR EXTERNAL MORPHOLOGY, AND MAYBE THEIR CHEMISTRY. They did not become what they were not.
They didn’t change their gender, either. We have had long discussions about what gender means, and everyone seems to have a difference of opinion, but in every definition of gender, except in reference to stereotyped behaviors, they have not changed. A woman who does not fit stereotypes is still a woman; a man who does not fit stereotypes is still a man.
A man who has his penis cut off is still a man. A woman who has her breasts cut off is still a woman. Change estrogen and/or testosterone levels, it still will not change your sex, your gender, or anything much…except maybe your health and your fertility.
Thanks for the comment, Mike B. Wish people were listening.
Thank you, ikn! I have been blowing 14 in. of snow here in Maine and haven’t read the new comment yet.
14″. We only got 13″.
I’m trying to convince my husband to move to Maine when I retire, but he’s pretty set on the midwest. He’s never lived anywhere else, and doesn’t understand the difference between the smell of salt water in the air and the smell of dirt.
:P LOL. I’m originally from Toledo!
Iknklast, I would think the priorities would be a state with a reality based government, with good drinking water security, above the 100 year flood level, not on a volcano, fault line, or active landslip. Bonus points for views of sea or mountains and a low level of airborne particulates for the benefit of the asthma suffer in the household. Actually, elevate that last point to a requirement.
When you do retire, come for a visit. The mountains are lovely pretty much year round.
Mike B; good job on your comment on the dictionary story.
Having been pissed off by one of the other commenters, I was going to comment too, and churned out a lengthy screed before finding out that commenting requires paying for a membership. I’m a cheap bastard, but liked what I wrote so I copy/pasted it to the Miscellany Room. It’s # 164. Enjoy (if that’s the right word).
I hate to break it to you, other Mike, but Lake Erie is not salt water until you use it to boil spaghetti noodles.
I like your comment on 3 Quarks Daily, and Ellie K’s reply to Tim Sommers is also spot on:

By wiping out the reference point used, “woman” has no meaning at all. The definition of living as a woman, or feeling like a woman, or identifying as a woman, becomes a child’s game of words. What is a woman? What I feel like. What do you feel like? A woman. What does a being a woman feel like?
That 3 Quarks post is so annoying…
Thanks to you all, and your intelligent conversations here, I felt confident enough actually to speak up about the issue on 3QD (I have a monthly column there). I was originally directed to B&W through some other skeptics’ site many years ago, and just happened to notice posts about the trans issue. I feel that I’ve learned a lot here.
I never gave much thought to the “T” in the alphabet soup of alleged “sexual minorities,” but now I think it’s time “T” struck out on its own.
T is too fragile and weak to live on its own; it needs a lot of protection!
