For the communinny
San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced the launch of a new guaranteed income program for the city’s transgender community on Wednesday.
Why? Why them in particular? Why not people who need it rather than a particular “community”?
The Guaranteed Income for Trans People (GIFT) Program will provide low-income transgender residents with $1,200 each month, up to 18 months to help address financial insecurity within the community.
Why?
The city also said that the new pilot program is the first guaranteed income initiative to focus solely on transgender people and will provide 55 eligible participants with temporary income. Additionally, the city said it will provide the same individuals with “wrap-around” direct services, such as gender-affirming medical and mental health care, case management, specialty care services and financial coaching.
Why? Why them in particular?
“We know that our trans communities experience much higher rates of poverty and discrimination, so this program will target support to lift individuals in this community up. We will keep building on programs like this to provide those in the greatest need with the financial resources and services to help them thrive,” said Mayor London Breed in a statement.
Transgender communities, experience poverty and economic instability at disproportionate rates according to the city.
“The US Transgender Survey, which is the only largescale study of trans people in the United States, in 2015 found that 33% of trans people in California were living in poverty,” said Pau Crego with the San Francisco Office of Transgender Initiatives.
Is that a good reason to give them but not other people living in poverty a guaranteed income?
“We hope that our guaranteed income program will be the beginning of a reparative process to change the inequities experienced by our communities, help them survive in a world that is constantly debating their right to exist, and empower them to engage in healthcare services in a meaningful and life-changing way,” said JM Jaffe, executive director of Lyon-Martin Community Health Services.
Which “communities” though?
That’s the trouble with this robotic stale language: you can’t tell what the hell they’re talking about or what they think they mean by it. It’s just a group of units of goodspeak, which don’t actually tell us anything. Reparative process, inequities experienced, debating their right to exist, empower them, meaningful – the phrases are like a stack of poker chips. Arrange them in pretty combinations and that’s the job done for today.
‘We know that our trans communities experience much higher rates of poverty and discrimination’
‘Transgender communities, experience poverty and economic instability at disproportionate rates according to the city.’
Higher than whom? Disproportionate rates compared to whom? If it’s straight white middle class men who don’t pretend to be women, maybe these statements are true, though I’m not completely convinced. Or are we talking about young women with mental disabilities who are now left with physical disabilities as well after ‘gender-affirming’ care?
‘“The US Transgender Survey, which is the only largescale study of trans people in the United States, in 2015 found that 33% of trans people in California were living in poverty,” said Pau Crego with the San Francisco Office of Transgender Initiatives.’
Not sure I believe this, given how many TIMs are in tech. Though again this statistic might be true for young mentally-ill women who now have physical disabilities as well.
‘“We hope that our guaranteed income program will be the beginning of a reparative process to change the inequities experienced by our communities, help them survive in a world that is constantly debating their right to exist, and empower them to engage in healthcare services in a meaningful and life-changing way,” said JM Jaffe, executive director of Lyon-Martin Community Health Services.’
I would have thought a genuine ‘reparative process’ would start with the ‘communities’ that have suffered the most harm and oppression throughout the history of the US–maybe the descendants of Chinese and African people forced to build the country’s infrastructure for little or no compensation? A lot of reparations are owed to them.
WTF? Tell me again this isn’t a religion. The holiest people deserve to have everybody else support them.
Maybe that’s because people who identify as transgender are mentally ill at disproportionate rates. But the law says you can’t treat mental illness in putatively transgender people anymore because it’s “transphobic,” so that becomes them being incapable of taking care of themselves at disproportionate rates.
Instead of just giving them a free ride to screw up their minds, their bodies, and the people around them, maybe we should change the laws to make real therapy legal again, and provide more therapists.
How was the study done? What was their sample size? What was their control group? Did they consider other confounding factors (as mentioned, mental illness being one)? Are they disproportionately living in poverty compared to female headed households? Especially those headed by women of color? How did they select their subjects? Was this a survey? If so, was it on the net, live, or what? Were there follow ups?
Who did the study? Did they run any statistical analyses other than percent? Show me the data…the actual, raw data, methodology, analysis methods, and then maybe I will be able to grasp that mind-blowing statistic. I’m not bright enough to grasp it without seeing actual hard data to support it; same reason I can’t believe in other religions.
So basically their providing an incentive for poor people in San Francisco to declare themselves trans. (Or are they gatekeeping? But wouldn’t that go against the whole trans ethos?) Though I see they’re limiting this to only 55 in the pilot program, so it’s basically a lottery.
Basically I’m basic. Ugh, I hate it when a word gets stuck in my brain like that.
Since this is San Francisco, I am certain that this will lead to screams that this is not enough and that the Supevisors are transphobic.
The application is AMAZING:

And then a list of sexual orientations, including “faggot”. On a government form.
“Basically” is a very sticky word for some reason. I’ve noticed that many times, including in my own brain.
Limiting this to the “trans” community is a gratuitous slap in the face to regular, plain old boring “cis” poor people. It tells them they’re not worthy of help, that even if they suffer as much as members of the “trans community,” they’re shit-out-of-luck because they’re not one of the “special people” with magical trans feelings.
Will this result in a whole lot of people in poverty “discovering” they’re trans? If men will pretend to be women in order to gain access to female only spaces (and the women who use them), then it’s no big stretch to assume that hungry, homeless people will pretend to be “trans” to gain access to food and shelter. Who would blame them?
Women are not allowed to mention the idea that some male predators might take advantage of self ID to find victims. Women (and everyone else) are told “This never happens!” We are told this is a “dogwhistle” accusation thatreally translates into “all trans people are sexual predators,” plowing aside the formerly understood, but now suddenly “transphobic” concept known as “Schrodinger’s Rapist.” We are told that this fear has no basis in reality, that it’s hyperbolic fearmongering used as a cover for wanting to hurt trans folk. How are women supposed to tell the difference between a “trans woman” and some guy in a dress? They can’t, but they’re not allowed to even try. They’re not allowed to “discriminate” or “exclude.” Self ID takes priority over women’s safety. When TiMs want in, there’s no saying “No.”
Setting aside the question of whether they should be getting this special treatment in the first place, what happens when the “trans community” wants to keep what’s theirs for themselves? It will be interesting to see how the “community” reacts once it’s their resources and facilities up for grabs, once the stiletto heel is on the other foot, once it’s their gold lame handbag being gored. What will they do?</ They will use many of the same arguments and appeals that women did in defending their own spaces. Arguments and appeals that trans activists declared hateful, bigoted, illegitimate, and cynical.
Will self ID as "trans" become insufficient grounds for receiving this aid provided for trans identifying people? Will we see the policing and gatekeeping of trans "identities?" Will there be a sudden refusal to accept "self ID" and accusations that some people "aren't trans enough" or not trans at all? How will they be able to turn around and start deciding whether or not someone has Genuine Trans Essence, and is not simply opportunistically adopting an "identity" to stake a claim on this benefit? How will they be able to tell the difference between a TiM and some poor guy in a dress? Oh no! It's Schrodinger's Trans! (But "That never happens!")
Won't any measures to determine the eligibility of those applying for this aide be dogwhistles? Aren't they just using these tests and restrictions to hide their real purpose, which is to hurt poor people? But fear not, there is no contradiction or hypocrisy too large to be swept under the hanky. Trans activists and their allies will come up with some excuse to protect their spaces and resources against the onslaught of the Unworthy Poor. But the optics of this conflict will be a bit different. Women were opposing the intrusion of narcissistic fetishists demanding validation; trans activists will be fighting against people who don’t want to starve to death.
“The city also said that the new pilot program is the first guaranteed income initiative to focus solely on transgender people and will provide 55 eligible participants with temporary income. Additionally, the city said it will provide the same individuals with “wrap-around” direct services, such as gender-affirming medical and mental health care, case management, specialty care services and financial coaching.”
So, 55 probably already chosen activist pets of the politicians will have dozens, if not hundreds, of support people who will also be using the taxpayer coin to fulfill all the not-essential-to-mere-survival needs of the Holy 55. Millions and millions of dollars go to the Holy 55 while the streets fill with human feces and used needles and the stores leave the city due to all the theft.
I am going to see how long the voters will keep voting Dem in San Francisco and the larger Bay Area. It seems we have a new Holy Order that the State will not only establish but fund with taxpayer money.
YNnB, not even always men in skirts. With Self-ID in the form they want, you won’t need to even so much as run lipstick over your lips or shave your beard. All that matters is that you “feel like” a woman. You don’t have to look like one – or even a grotesque caricature of one.
So the trans cult’s campaign for preferential treatment is finally paying off. At the taxpayers expense. Ugh.
The goalposts have moved so far that I’m not sure I can call myself liberal minded anymore.
Alternatively, the trans community might be tickled pink at how their numbers swell as all the closeted trans coming out of the closet validate their insistence that knowing your sex doesn’t match your true identity is real. The statistics on marginalization and oppression will probably take a leap when the homeless and other poverty-stricken people are added, contributing to and supporting their perception.
I see no reason why most of the trans-identified and their allies won’t believe the new trans-identified aren’t “real trans.” The general attitude they have now is to approach all claims as true unless a particularly egregious POS does them no credit at all. Believe & affirm. It’s likely to continue, because even money can take second place to conviction.
I think I’ve got one too many negatives in what I see no reason in.
Heh. Should be are not aren’t, yes?
Previously there was a pilot program offering GBI to black and Pacific Islander women who were pregnant. They received $200 dollars less per month.
So being “gender nonconforming” or “gender expansive” (is being trans just a matter of wandering through a TikToc thesaurus?) makes you “trans.” Does that mean butch lesbians are now trans? Heterosexual women with short hair, who don’t wear makeup, and work in the skilled trades? Men who wear makeup and nail polish and the occasional dress/skirt like Harry Styles or Billy Porter? Women who choose not to have children? Men who knit or crochet? It is amazing how the most oppressed and vulnerable “minority” manages to capture everyone who isn’t a Barbie or G.I. Joe.
