It's because I believe that if anti-trans feminists spent their time attacking the incel movement rather than the trans community, they would be making a much more significant contriubtion to the safety of women and girls.
Incels are a pain, and apparently dangerous, but one thing they don’t do: insist that women’s movements must include them. They don’t try out for women’s sport, they don’t think women’s bathrooms should be open to them (or if they do, they don’t seem to be talking about that from what I’ve seen).
Yes, patriarchal view of masculinity is a lot of the problem.
And I am SO TIRED of hearing that feminism is good for men. Who cares? It’s about women. Even if it was bad for men to allow women to be treated decently, it shouldn’t matter to feminists. Women being treated equally is the sensible, logical, and human thing to do.
And if women stopped “attacking” trans, we would quickly end up with no rights at all.
My impression is that there’s a non-trivial overlap between incels and trans-identified males. Just look at the supposed intellectuals of the movement. You’ve got Julia Serano, who asks probing questions like “when the overwhelming majority of cis dykes date and fuck cis women, but are not open to, or are even turned off by, the idea of dating or fucking trans women, how is that not transphobic?” (Shorter version: “How dare these bitches not have sex with me?”) And then you have Andrea Long Chu, who writes that blank eyes and an expectant asshole constitute the core essence of womanhood. Chu no doubt intends to play the provocateur, but he’s really just regurgitating the pedestrian misogyny of porn-addicted male supremacists the world over, with the only difference being that most other male supremacists would focus on a different orifice. And bear in mind that these are the figures who supposedly legitimize the gender-ideology movement—its academics, its artists.
Contrary to what Billy Bragg thinks, opposing gender ideology and opposing incel ideology are very much conjoined projects.
The incel thing is moral panic… Nasty trans activism is a real and present danger. And as As The Smoke Rises Upwards says there’s probably a fair number of incels/MRAs/Gamergaters that are troons now…
