Erm what?
Has “the rise of transphobia” made “lesbian identity” obsolete? One “form of marginalization equates lesbianism with transphobia.” The true, traditional, correct, acceptable, approved lesbian identity is “political, nonessentialist, intersectional, and community grounded.” You were probably thinking it was to do with women loving women, but that’s obsolete. The new improved lesbianism is “inclusive of trans, nonbinary, and cis women.” Obviously “cis women” are last in the list because really, who gives a shit about women? Men who call themselves women are so much more fascinating and enlightened and – let’s face it – sexy than boring old dreary tedious women. If we understand lesbianism as “grounded in politics of inclusion” i.e. dominated by men we can fight climate change.
This is published by something that calls itself Journal of Lesbian Studies.
And what exactly does lesbianism have to do with climate change? Looks like another of those things the activists throw in to make their issue more globally important than it is.
Wow.
Things that have nothing to do with female-female sexual attraction:
Transphobia, increased income inequality, gentrification, loss of community spaces, gender identities, neo-fascism, climate change. Trans women and other related pronoun people aren’t being rejected because they identify a certain way, they are being rejected because they are male. If you really want to turn this into a new fangled phobia, at least get the object of the rejection correct: androphobia.
“Sustain lesbian identity” had my hackles up, as it directly implies people are making a choice in maintaining their sexual preference, but then they make it clear with “the rejection of the “born this way narrative””.
Reality is nothing, idenniny is EVERYTHINNNNNNNNNNNNG.
The last sentence of the Abstract is so much forced-teaming boilerplate.
The loss of community spaces is significant. Many lesbians have been excommunicated, banned from their own communities, because male interlopers have invaded and taken over what were formerly lesbian community spaces.
Attacks on lesbians which marginalize them from civil society:
1.) Accusing them of being deviants
2.) Accusing them of being criminals.
3.) Accusing them of not believing Transwomen Are Women.
One of these things is not like the others. Bet they thought they could just sneak that in there.
Re #7
Your third bullet isn’t explicitly in the text, just “transphobia” is, but that’s probably what they mean, isn’t it? If so, I think that’s more what marginalizes trans advocates from civilized society, believing that nonsense.
I don’t understand where they’re aiming in regard to rejection of the “born this way” narrative. I think the narrative is worth rejecting as a principle, but I do not at all see how such a rejection allows lesbian identity to incorporate all these other things. “Lesbian” means something, not all these other things, and it doesn’t need to include or even have anything to do with these other things.
