Missing women
A south-east London primary school has been left “devastated” by the suspected murder of one of its teachers after her body was found near a community centre on Saturday.
The Metropolitan police named the victim as Sabina Nessa, 28, from Kidbrooke, and said her death was being treated as murder. A man in his 40s who was arrested on suspicion of killing her has been released under further investigation.
Lisa Williams, the head of Rushey Green primary school in Lewisham, where Nessa worked, said she was a brilliant teacher.
“We are devastated by Sabina’s tragic death. She was kind, caring and absolutely dedicated to her pupils,” Williams added.
But apparently not kind and caring enough to be trending on Twitter.
There is a Subreddit (I KNOW!) for Petito that is on its third stream because the prior two filled up. People choose the obsession and run with it until it’s gone. Yes, it’s the widower who did it.
Closer to home, there are thousands of missing indigenous girls and women from the US and Canada. Many are being trafficked and others are murdered. If the murder happens on a reservation tribal police do not have much authority over white murderers (for whatever crime, including rape.) It has something to do with an interpration of sovereignty by the SCOTUS. Not long ago, a tanker docked in Duluth was raided, and trafficked women were found and saved.
I made the comment at a liberal blog that prostitution is not a victimless crime in a post about missing and murdered women, and the one thing that was focused on in replies to me, was that sex work is work and that making prostitution legal would fix it. Also that I’m stupid and that I’m repeating a Conservative Evangelicial scare talking point.
Whether the media create the focus on a particular missing woman, or if social media obsession is the driver, I don’t know; but race, perceived attractiveness, class, etc, are all factors. The fact that women are being killed due to their sex is undeniable, and the numbers are staggering.
