Is he?
Graham Linehan asks the age-old question: Is Eddie Izzard a lesbian?
Alright, everyone, let’s get out there and start asking our favourite celebrities the following question: “Is Eddie Izzard a lesbian?”.
Ask everyone you can think of, from intellectuals like Jameela Jamil and Frankie Boyle all the way across to such LGBT giants as Michael Cashman and Linda Riley. Let’s get people on the record as saying that Eddie Izzard is a lesbian.
Because, by now I think more and more people are waking up to the fact that, yes, this is literally what is being proposed. It is why lesbians have been lying down in front of Pride Marches and such. It’s why Maya Forstater lost her job. It’s why there are branches of the LGB Alliance opening all over the world, despite the fact that it’s not easy being a branch of the LGB Alliance, with the BBC, for example, unable to make up its mind whether they’re a hate group or not, in part because they never seem to find the time to speak to them.
…
It’s currently de rigeur among Twitter’s blue checkmark set to call the LGB Alliance a hate group. Their crime? They don’t believe that Eddie Izzard—and the many other crossdressing men like him currently claiming trans status— are the same sex as they are.
“Is Eddie Izzard a lesbian?” Ask them the question. Let’s see if they can go that far. Let’s see if they dare go on the record saying such a disgraceful, homophobic thing. Let’s see how long they will play along with a sick joke by Eddie that erases the reality of women, and lesbians in particular, in the most careless, reckless, selfish manner.
Eddie, with respect, you’re not a lesbian. That’s homophobic and sexist and I’m sure you don’t want to be homophobic or sexist, no matter how many people are currently telling you that you’re stunning and brave, such as the famously ethical and rigorous Pink News.
If he were an actual lesbian no one would pay the slightest attention to him.
“If he were an actual lesbian no one would pay the slightest attention to him.”
::mic drop::
By my count, Izard has appeared in over 30 movies in which she played a male, including Charlie Chaplin, and Bertie, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII).
How dare she steal roles that rightly belonged to CIS male actors. How dare she convince everyone she was a man! Does she not know the horrors and violence she has caused by erasing CIS male actors from their craft?
Will all these movie listings have to be changed to show he was played by her? And will she give back the surplus wages that males get over females in movies?
Eddie Izzard, you’re not a woman, you’re not a lesbian, you’re an ageing hack who doesn’t know when it is time to quietly slip from the limelight.
Also does Eddie Izzard’s partner, if there is one, now turn bisexual by sleeping with Eddie while Eddie was in both boy and girl modes.
From Roj’s comment, #2:
I was thinking recently about something similar but with potential real-world consequences. Once a trans person has adopted a new name their old name ‘dies’, and we are told that using their deadname in any context is not allowed. So what happens if, for example, a trans person applies for a job and needs to provide details of their education, qualifications, work history and so-on, if any of that was pre-transition? As far as I’m aware one cannot have diplomas re-issued in a name different to that of the person who earned them, so the trans person might claim to have degrees but without deadnaming themself there will be no record of their achievements. Similarly, their old schools and colleges will have no record of them ever having attended. If a potential employer contacts the applicant’s former employers to check that their work history is correct and not exaggerated, there will be no record of the applicant ever having worked there. In other words, on the c.v. of a transitioned person with a new name, everything pre-transition cannot be proven without using the deadname; all qualifications and achievements of deadname cannot be claimed by newname without newname self-deadnaming.
Does newname therefore have to go back and re-earn their qualifications? Or is the rule ‘nobody may use my deadname under any circumstance unless doing so is of benefit to me’?
