It’s Mock the Lesbians Day!
The Gender Studies professor strikes again.
Hur hur. So funny. Lesbians are not endangered! Yes, there are a lot fewer of them in the rising generation but that’s because they’re glorious inspiring trans men instead! Which is obviously so much better! So let’s laugh ourselves sick at the very idea that fewer lesbians means fewer lesbians.
Yes but you see trans people have declared themselves the ultimate oppressed class, which means they have free license to snipe at any group. It’s all punching up!
I had a very conservative friend, a big Bush supporter, who nonetheless thought this was about the funniest thing ever:

Likewise, I’m in totally disagreement with Sally Hines on the trans vs. lesbian issue, but those three tweets are pretty funny.
I see her Twitter account is disabled, so apparently Twitter didn’t see the humor in them (or she did something else).
Skeletor, have a think about why the tweets might be different to the Bush thing.
Skeletor, I have to agree with latsot on this one. It’s like rape jokes.
I don’t find the tweets funny, in the same way that I don’t find the argument funny that climate change isn’t real because there’s snow about. If, however, the content of the tweets were presented in a satirical context, that I might find funny. Like, “the arguments these people use are so stupid. They’d probably say something like, blah blah blah. And think themselves clever! Like, checkmate, atheists/TERFs/scientists/etc.”
In the proper context, even the something horrific like the Holocaust can make for quality humor. Gallows humor, but humor nonetheless.
But that’s the thing: humor just IS context. Context just IS humor. And the context here is shitty.
