The funny thing is this person is telling the story as an inspiring tale about how she corrected her mom and set her on the right path…except it comes across as her mom bending over backwards to accommodate her ingrate, full-of-herself daughter.

I would have been tempted to change it from “fantastic young woman” to just “young person” if I got that objection. Or just deleted the whole thing.
Same here. Would also feel very tempted to tell the young person to go somewhere quite far away.
