How are women supposed to know the difference?
It’s no skin of James Harris’s nose, is it. Men ignoring women’s boundaries is no threat to him, so by all means Eddie Izzard should do whatever he wants.
Graham Linehan is not impressed with what his colleague is doing.
I know a woman who met Eddie and he thought it would be a laugh to go into the women’s toilets with her. She was embarrassed and uncomfortable but felt she couldn’t say anything. This discomfort and embarrassment is now Eddie’s gift for every woman who has the bad luck to encounter him in the wild.
…
Eddie, how are women supposed to know the difference between men like you, and men like Mark Brown? How are they to know that Mark is not one of the ‘nice ones’ like you? .
And how are they to know you are not one of the nasty ones like Mark Brown? We can’t know either way, which is why we’re not brought up being told to trust all strangers no matter what.
Mark Brown by the way is the student who put on a long silver wig and a dress to chase a woman through the streets and then assault her.
It is the height of male privilege to intrude into women’s spaces and expect women to just love it. In fact, when a group of teenage girls DIDN’T love it, Eddie painted them as nasty bullies, instead of young women protecting their privacy and dignity.
So, Eddie, don’t be so fucking stupid. You’re not a woman, you’re just a man with oddly low levels of empathy for the sex you’re appropriating.
Oddly but all too familiarly.
imagine if someone made a supposedly current tweet about a woman and used a picture as out of date as that…
And yet, if you included anything remotely like that in a work of fiction, you’d be accused of hate speech.
Re #2
Especially if you’re a woman. Even more especially if you’ve said something at any time that inspires zealots to go over your written oeuvre in excruciating detail.
(Slight aside: I recall a big to-do about a high school assigning Fahrenheit 451 for reading. Some parents decided to read the book and look for things to complain about. Their findings included insufficient reverence for firefighters, firefighters maligned by suggesting they set fires, and the burning of bibles.
That’s the same kind of asinine scrutiny I think of when TRAs focus without context on minor descriptions or small plot points to provide “evidence” of “transphobia”.)
That was the whole idea behind Schroedinger’s Rapist, wasn’t it? That there’s no obvious way to immediately distinguish between Bad Men and Good Men, and so you can’t expect women to intuit your benign intentions (or to assume them).
But now women are being asked to assume the good intentions not only of a male-bodied person dressed as a woman, but a male-bodied person dressed as a man in a women’s restroom?
Another comedian, Mark Steel, has praised Izzard’s stunning bravery. Or brave stunnery.
It took me an embarrassing number of seconds to work out what “Palace” meant. I thought it was some wokeslang I didn’t know about it because everyone on Twitter keeps blocking me for being a TERF.
The replies are encouraging.
Goddammit I would have thought Mark Steel had more sense than that.
So, latsot, are you going to share? What does Palace mean? Other than “place where the king/queen lives”?
I believe it refers to being a supporter of the Crystal Palace football club.
Palace is new to me, but Urban Dictionary has it as 1) An object that that when refered to, is in fact, a palace: 2) (as a verb) In a public washroom when you are taking a shit and you begin a conversation with the person in the stall next to you: 3) great or awesome: 4) Someone who talks a lot of shit with facts to back it up. She’s fun to be around but is a hoe. She’s pretty enough that she has at least 2 boyfriends in her teen life. She often makes sexual jokes and doesn’t give a crap about what others think. She dresses like a hoe, and can tell the difference between a slut and a whore. She’s emo at heart but of course she’d never show it.
Take your pick, I suppose.
Screechy is right,
