Before spouting such embarrassing tosh
I’m not the only one who finds it absurd that Jolyon Maugham says judges must not meddle with what parents decide is best for their children.
How can he be? If he thinks for even a second? Some parents are abusive. Some are mentally ill. Some are alcoholics. Some are addicted to drugs that render them incapable. Some are religious fanatics. Some are sadists. The law sometimes has to protect children from their own parents. Maugham is a barrister; he can’t possibly be unaware of that fact.
What I’m saying.
That is so self-evidently stupid after 3 seconds thought. Plenty of people have been pointing out that parents can be Jehovah’s Witnesses who don’t allow blood transfusions, or are from cultures who make their daughters more marriageable with FGM; or think that a child should be beaten when he sneezes; he only does it to annoy because he knows it teases. .
Right? It just seems so basic.
This is an obvious lie, and can only be understood (by me at least) as an opportunity to display his TRA bona fides.
Another possible interpretation is that sometimes the TRA movement appears MAP adjacent.
To be clear — about individual people — I’m not saying Jolyon Maugham is a MAP, any more than I would say he is trans. My tentative observation is about movements.
ROGD=Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria
MAP=Minor-attracted person
Don’t use acronyms, just don’t.
It’s clear that Jolyon thinks the parents are the ones to decide what’s best for their kids when their decisions agree with the kids’ desires. I doubt that his view remains consistent when, for example, a parent decides that if their child wants to burgle houses or not attend school then he should be allowed to do so.
It just dawned on me that Jolyon is using the disingenuous misinformation technique so beloved of the trans lobby.
The courts are not telling parents that judges know better than they do what is best for their children. They are telling the Tavistock clinic that based on scientific evidence, the off-license use of a class of drugs is to be restricted, and each case where the clinic wants to issue such drugs is to be individually assessed by the courts prior to treatment commencing.
