Another torch
Another ignorant twerp jumps, very belatedly, on the Let’s All Monster JK Rowling train.
Since J.K. Rowling published “Reasons for Speaking out on Sex and Gender Issues” to JKRowling.com, Harry Potter fans, Wizarding Worldfilm stars and LGBTQ+ organizations have been speaking out against Rowling’s statement. Fans of Rowling’s work are questioning how to move forward, whilst LGBTQ+ organizations are publishing responses aiming to combat misinformation within the author’s essay.
No, the responses aren’t aiming to combat misinformation, they’re aiming to enforce a novel and stupid orthodoxy and to destroy yet another woman who doesn’t adhere to it.
Whilst some have defended Rowling’s right to an opinion, others, including Forbes.com Diversity & Inclusion Contributor Dawn Ennis, have illustrated the dangers of opinions and misinformation within her statements.
Gee, imagine being so benighted as to think Rowling has a right to an opinion. It should be pried out of her with a crowbar and then all traces washed away with acid.
The implications of Rowling’s statements and backlash on the future success of the Wizarding World franchise have also been questioned. Scott Mendelson, Forbes.com Hollywood & Entertainment Contributor, questions the future of the Fantastic Beasts film franchise, whilst Dani Di Placido, Forbes.com Arts Senior Contributor, says Rowling is “destroying” her legacy.
Also this guy waiting for the bus this morning said he’d never heard of her, and my neighbor’s dog barked.
What “misinformation”? We’re not told. There is a hyperlink, but following it doesn’t help.
No, all you need to know, dear reader, is that Rowling’s opinions are dangerous and contain dangerous misinformation. Run along now.
The misinformation…well, that…over there…you see, it’s plain as day…what, you want me to do your work for you? It’s not my job to educate you!…oh, look, a squirrel.
Oh, dear me. “Fans of her work are questioning how to move forward”? What, they’re wondering if they should continue their annual re-reading of a series of children’s books that was completed in… (checks) 2007? Must be tough.
@Catwhisperer #3:
Good point… in 2007 if you’d told any of them “transwomen are women” they’d all be (and I’ll include myself amongst them) “Dafuq are transwomen?”
Admittedly I don’t think “dafuq” was in use much in 2007.
It’s never about what the accused actually said, is it. It’s only ever about what the thing she said supposedly implies as seen through the distorting lens of a million unstated premises and unquestioned ideological assumptions, and only at the other end of a long train of impossibly sloppy inferences and extrapolations, involving slippery slope lines of reasoning, circular logic, telepathic powers etc… etc…
Ironically, although not a single person who ever lived was sitting in a bigger glass house than Donald Trump, he is in fact right (for all the wrong reasons) that the liberal media deserve all the scorn they can get. When they report on the latest public shaming they typically skip right past the unstated premises and unquestioned ideological assumptions and impossibly sloppy inferences and jump straight to the “supposedly implies” part as if it had already been established such that the only open question is how severe the punishment needs to be.
I think it might have been a more interesting article if it went more into exactly why some others don’t believe Rowling is entitled to have an opinion.
I couldn’t stop without pointing out this special gem:
Is this a masterpiece of DARVO, or what? TRAs want to deny Rowling the right to have an opinion, they want to hurt her economically, they threaten to harm her physically, because she has expressed a perspective they don’t appreciate. One which Rowling felt could help challenge the more dominant idea, which the TRAs espouse, and change others’ perspectives. Rowling’s ideas are about protecting all too narrow a segment of society – you know, a majority.
It’s like a child standing there with his fingers in his ears and saying “why aren’t you listening to me?”
The last of the seven primary Harry Potter books was published in 2007. Since then, there have been several other books set in that world, a series of eight films for the seven books, two films of a prequel series derived from one of the ancillary books, a stage play, sales of the movie screenplays, and an amusement park, not to mention all the works that are not Harry Potter. The most recent movie came out in 2018. (I hope there is a follow-on film, I liked the movies.)
So there is a lot for “fans of her work” to lose.
Papito, for all that to work, they have to pretend that their’s is not the dominant idea. And while they are correct in one way (I am guessing only a small minority of people hold the extreme views of the trans advocates, even those who believe trans people should have full rights), they have quickly made their dogma the dominant view among many politicians, institutions, and media. Meanwhile, they pretend that they are not being heard, that they can’t speak up, that they can’t be out in the open, or be listened to. They pretend that trans people are being kicked off Twitter and Facebook in huge numbers just for being trans, while they continue to manage their Twitter accounts and Facebook pages with daily (sometimes hourly) status updates about being trans, about women they got deplatformed, about women they are trying to get deplatformed. They threaten violence and are not removed unless such a tsunami of complaints arrives that Twitter has no choice, while women who merely say “women don’t have penises” are given permanent bans, vilified, and in some extreme cases, fired or arrested.
The trans voice is the loudest voice in the room, so loud most people assume only a tiny minority of “haters” disagrees with them.
The whole thing is another overlap with Christians, who do the same thing, and the media lines up to sympathize with the poor people who can’t even carry their Bible out in public without risking their very lives.
How do you know that that was a “dog” who “barked”, and not a transcow that mooed?
WaM, you win the internet for today!
“LGBTQ+ organizations”
No. TQ+ organizations. LGB have been amputated.
