“Why we chose to publish the information about the whistle-blower”
The New York Times, weirdly, chose to report information on the whistleblower…no doubt right around the time Trump was screaming threats at said whistleblower. Then it tweeted its explanation for doing so.

That may be, but given that the subject of the whistleblower’s complaint is a raving maniac, it’s not the most urgent consideration.
(Mind you, I mentioned the chit-chat about Coats, but then I’m not the New York Times.)
So, if the whistle-blower had ignored the legal channels and gone to the NY Times instead, they would protect him or her as a confidential source. But because he or she followed the legally authorized procedures, it’s open season.
Disgusting. The NYT already blew this story when Vogel had the scoop but used it to write the “Hunter Biden scandal” story that the Trumpistas were pushing. Then they published a highly misleading story about how six “swing voters” still stood by Trump despite the news — neglecting to disclose that these six voters were all Trump supporters who have been repeatedly interviewed for these kinds of stories and are hardly “gettable” votes for the Democrats.
The paper of record, indeed. I’m not even going to start on the editorial page, on which Ross Douthat actually looks decent compared to Bret “Bedbug” Stephens and Bari “Free Speech for Everyone Whose Speech I Like” Weiss or the faux-deep brain droppings of David Brooks and Tom Friedman.
Tom “Air Miles” Friedman, as he is known.
Ophelia, I’m an addict and I try to never miss Butterflies and Wheels, even when the topic confuses me! And sometimes I feel compelled to click through! I greatly value your contribution to our common discourse! I hope you’re younger than my 74 years and you’ll outlast me!
Thank you, Martin.
Ophelia, make sure to eat your Brussels Sprouts. They’ll help keep you healthy. ;-)
Not the way I cook ’em, they won’t. Certainly worth the risk, though. See comments on http://www.butterfliesandwheels.org/2019/participation-%e2%89%a0-competition/
