Tatchell tries to set feminists straight
Peter Tatchell is permanently confused.
I speak out against transphobia. Gender is more than genitals. New science suggests that trans identity is rooted in different brain structures. As feminists USED to say: Biology is NOT destiny. Now some say it IS destiny. LISTEN 1 hr 3 min http://ow.ly/lt4S50vBsqk @MunroeBergdorf
No, we’re not taking instruction in feminism from Peter Tatchell thank you very much. He’s not a feminist and he knows nothing about feminism.
We’re also not taking instruction in anything from Munroe Bergdorf. Feminist women really don’t need or want instruction from men who think being a woman=being like Munroe Bergdorf.
No, feminism has not shifted from saying biology is not destiny to saying it is destiny. The point of “biology is not destiny” was to say that your sex doesn’t determine your skills or talents or interests or personality or anything other than your literal physical sex. We still say that. What we don’t say is that you can flip your sex either through the Magic of Words or the technology of surgery and hormones.
It’s not complicated. The refusal to get it is the offspring of misogyny and entitlement.
And research on different brain structures is…well, at best, fuzzy and ambiguous. At worst, just plain wrong.
“Different brain structures”!?

Brain structures would be biological, wouldn’t they?
There’s deeply compelling evidence that the vast majority of trans-identified males — virtually all of the ones who weren’t born extremely effeminate and homosexual — have what amounts to a variant form of heterosexual orientation. It’s what’s called an erotic target location error: most heterosexual men want to have sex with a woman, but these heterosexuals want to have sex as a woman. It’s directly analogous to (and frequently co-occurs with) other paraphilic target errors, which sometimes accompany sexual fetishes.
For example, some males who are sexually aroused by their stuffed teddybear (a common fetish) become aroused while acting as a stuffed animal — they’re turned on by the idea of being the target of their sexual attraction. (These are called Furries.) Some males who are sexually aroused by children become aroused by dressing as or acting as infants. (This is called Adult Baby Syndrome.) Another surprisingly common paraphilia is amputee fetish (sexual arousal by amputated limb stumps) and when that erotic target rebounds onto the self, sufferers go to great lengths to impersonate amputees, and sometimes deliberately maim themselves in order to actually become amputees. This used to be called Body Integrity Identity Disorder, but the word “disorder” is out of favour, so now it’s called Body Integrity Dysphoria. Sound familiar? Yep, it’s just like how Gender Identity Disorder became Gender Dysphoria.
When BID sufferers talk about their condition, they sound exactly the same as GD sufferers do; it’s uncanny. They even have a name they call themselves to refer to their identity: they’re called transabled. No, I am not making that up. (And just like with transsexualism, doctors are starting to perform amputations on BID patients as a kind of affirmation treatment — to help them become the disabled selves they know they really truly are deep down in their souls.)
Not only are Furrydom, Adult Baby fetish, and Body Intergrity Dysphoria precisely analogous to Autogynephilic Transsexualism, they very often co-occur: it seems some people (virtually exclusively males) have an innate predisposition for paraphilias, and are likely to develop more than one simultaneously. Men with Body Integrity Dysphoria, for example, are far more likely to also have gender dysphoria and identify as transsexuals; transsexuals are far more likely to also identify as Adult Babies and/or Furries than non-transsexuals are, etc. There’s even a word for trans adult babies: Sissy Babies. (This frequent co-occurence leads us to observe the uncomfortable possibility that pedophilic sexual attraction might therefore be more common among transsexuals — oh dear.)
The fact that transsexualism looks exactly the same as other paraphilias and tends to occur in the exact same people is pretty conclusive evidence that transsexual identity is rooted in paraphilic sexuality, if you ask me. But you don’t have to ask me — literally hundreds and hundreds of transsexuals openly admit that their urge to transition derived from paraphilic sexual and/or romantic needs.
I should add: I learned most of this stuff (though not all of it) from the book Men Trapped in Men’s Bodies: Narratives of Autogynephilic Transsexualism by the highly respected psychologist and sexologist Anne Lawrence, who herself is an autogynephilic transsexual. It’s an excellent book, well worth reading if the subject fascinates you. You can read the introduction for free at Amazon:

Thank you, Artymorty. I’ve been wanting to read Lawrence’s book for ages, but it’s hard to find and ridiculously expensive.

All I’m gonna say is, usually if you google the title of a book in quotes, with the letters PDF after the quotes, you’d be surprised and what you can find in the top results. ;)
Really? High heels in the crib?
Artymorty, that’s very interesting. :) Thanks!
