Not just the middle
Kim sent Trump another letter – a very beautiful letter.
It was three pages.
Not only that – it was top to bottom. No seriously, right from top to bottom. He said so. “Beautiful…three page…I mean right from top to bottom.” He made a side to side gesture to illustrate top to bottom, in case we don’t understand what letters are.
Top to bottom! Kim must really love and admire Trump if he sent him a beautiful letter that was top to bottom.
I remember discussing this here way back in the early days of this administration, or possibly even before that — how, even putting aside the issues of kompromat and bribery, we still have the problem that Trump is easily manipulable by the most transparent flattery.
Ironically, a lot of leaders of democratic countries have to be careful about doing so, because their own voters hate Trump and don’t want to see their leader kissing up to him. (I’m expecting Justin Trudeau to pick a fight with Trump any day now to try to boost his own re-election prospects.) But Kim is under no such restrictions, so he can extract all sorts of diplomatic goodwill out of the occasional flowery letter without ever making a substantive concession.
It’s also another strike against the claim that Trump is secretly a political genius. Even conservative Trump loyalists seem rather embarrassed by how easily Trump is duped. It runs counter to his tough-guy image. The only reason it doesn’t hurt him significantly with his base is that foreign policy is rarely a big election issue.
Give me a ticket to Pyongyang
Ain’t no need to talk to Moon Jae-in
Lonely days are gone
I’m a-going home
Kim Jong-un, he wrote me a letter
Sure it’s three pages, top to bottom, side to side, whatever. But how big was the type? How many pictures? How many times did it show the Holy Name?
I’m not sayin’ shit, but I am laughing.
Most of the ‘tough guys’ I’ve known personally have been narcissistic and have been easily duped by flattery.
