No election security for you! Next question?
Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi on Wednesday blocked the advancement of a trio of bills aimed at strengthening election security just hours after former special counsel Robert Mueller warned of the continued threat that foreign powers interfering in US elections.
…
Two of those bills would require campaigns to report to federal authorities any attempts by foreign entities to interfere in US elections, and the third is aimed at protecting from hackers the personal accounts and devices of senators and some staffers.
So the Republicans want foreign entities to interfere in US elections. That’s interesting.
Hyde-Smith’s move is in line with past action from Republicans in the Senate. McConnell is refusing to buckle to the near constant drumbeat from Democrats — and some in the GOP — about the need to pass election security legislation in the wake of Mueller’s report.
The Kentucky Republican, who believes strongly that elections should be primarily controlled by state and local authorities and not managed by Washington, argues that the federal government has already responded to the problems raised from the 2016 campaign and more does not need to be done at this time.
Oh please. McConnell doesn’t believe strongly anything except Republican domination.
Yeah. Very convenient. So states can block African Americans from voting (as long as they don’t outright forbid it, and just play shenanigans to make it happen). If they so chose, they could find ways to prevent women from voting. Or Native Americans. Or LGB. Or atheists. Or Democrats. And the feds should not interfere, even when it means we get our government chosen by a government overseas who may not exactly have our best interests in mind.
It would benefit Russia (and a number of other countries led by unscrupulous dictators) to be able to pick a president that would do their bidding. Or break our government. Either one is a win for Putin.
Having a black family in the White House for eight years has unhinged the Republican Party. They will do anything to drag back progress. Their president makes a white power hand sign while he’s giving a speech and that is totes fine with them: anything is better than an urbane, educated and charismatic black man.
I wonder if they will start rioting. They’re openly coming out and tearing down democratic safeguards: is there a coup coming if Kampala Harris wins the DNC nomination? Or will they just rely on Russia, gerrymandering and their stacked courts to keep power?
learie, my fear is that they might go beyond Russia, gerrymandering, and stacked courts to lynching.
But I suspect it isn’t just the black family; having a woman get so close to the White House further unhinged them. A black woman? That would likely lead to war.
“X warned of the continued threat that foreign powers interfering in US elections.”
There’s something wrong with that sentence.
