An optional emergency
So here we go. Trump, sounding both drunk and brain-dead, says he’s declaring a national emergency, then promptly says he didn’t have to do that, which means it’s not an emergency, so all the lawyers are saying that won’t do him a lot of good in court.
Can’t anybody stop this runaway train?

What a rambling, morbid, illogical, mendacious speech. Which I guess makes it no different from any other speech he gives. But now we’re taking lessons from China on criminal justice? The death penalty for drug dealers? (And I really wouldn’t trust Xi’s estimate of how big the drug problem is in China.)
Congress can, and so can his Cabinet. But they won’t.
Imagine that conversation. Trump, upon meeting someone whose child was killed, says “That’s too bad” in response. And now these bereaved people are being gathered for Trump’s PR purposes.
#1 Are they seriously suggesting judicial murder for dealing drugs?
I hope they start with the most serious cases and go after the fag pushers erd and booze pedlars first, along with some of their bought and paid for politicians.
I hope Americans have the backbone to deal with the real problem eventually, which isn’t Trump so much as the enablers in Congress and the cabinet who seem content to allow the crime syndicate currently occupying the White house to wreck the nation unhindered.
Even when I was a kid, long ago, I realised the problem with Germany wasn’t Hitler, but the significant proportion of Germans supporting him or at least allowing the cancer to spread without an aggressive application of chemo or radio therapy.
Since when has what he’s said held any water in the (upper) courts?
Nogbert,
In the clip above (which I don’t recommend viewing, unless you need to simultaneously raise your blood pressure and get some sleep), Trump rambles on about how China doesn’t have a drug problem because they have the death penalty for drug dealers. He clearly wants to apply that here. I don’t think there’s any serious movement right now to do so outside of what passes for Trump’s brain.
Apparently his first order of business after declaring a national emergency is to head down to Mar-a-Lago for some golf.
He’s investigating rumors of undocumented immigrants working there.
LOL at all the hits

Ha!
I read the transcript. It was like reading a transcript of someone having a stroke in real time.
And it’s even worse when you watch it (I’ve seen only bits – there’s only so much I can stand). All the weirdness – the jerking of the head, the gestures, the emphases, the vocal lurching, the outer space pronunciations…

The sing-song cadence is especially interesting. I think it reveals the sheer number of times he has been lectured behind the scenes by people that know more than him – “Mr. President, if you do this, they will immediately take this to court and you will lose.” “Mr. President, we keep telling you that this will be defeated in court.” “Mr. President…” – and his frustration at the tedious repetitiveness of that conversation. It is very clear to me that he knows exactly how this will unfold, and he is tired of being told so.
And then he did so anyway.
