Polite warning
Threatening to slice up women with a big knife is the hip new thing.

The whole photo doesn’t show up so here:
Totally not violent though…

Yeah, but it’s only actual violence against women that’s being threatened. It’s not like he misgendered a transwoman or anything.

Big Old Cinnamon Slapped Crab Bong appears to have deleted their entire twitter account, much to nobody’s regret.
A man with a knife, threatening women. How progressive. How very much he has shown us we have no right to fear male violence.
How do some people who consider themselves on the progressive side of politics find themselves behaving like far-right thugs? And why do some genuine leftists/progressives have a hard time denouncing this when it happens?
I don’t believe in the ‘horseshoe’ theory that says the far left and far right have more in common with each other than each has with the ‘centre’. I think that just ignores the content of left and right wing thought.
But i think the concept of ‘identity politics’ might help explain the phenomenon. If you place a lot of importance on your identity as part of a group which is under threat of ‘erasure’ or ‘replacement’ then maybe that’s all it takes to make some people violently agressive. Maybe right and left wing identitarians are experiencing the same fight/flight response?
Just a thought. Not sure if it’s plausible.
Ben, for me, the horseshoe theory is more about the far fringes of both sides having methodology rather than ideology in common.
Where does Tatchell figure in this? And who is Owen Jones?
Ben @ 5 – I don’t know. I wonder the same thing all the time, and I don’t know.
How Tatchell figures:

JtheD–Owen Jones is a leftwing British columnist and activist who is all in with the whole “trans women are women” thing. He’s very critical of “TERFs.”
