Why are the media saying he’s joking? It doesn’t seem like he’s joking to me.
Because the media still insist on trying to treat this like a standard presidential administration, and analyze it the same way they have always analyzed presidents. Because they refuse to admit that he is something so strange and disturbing that you need a whole new language to describe him. Because to admit what he really is would be to admit that there might be something amiss among the voters of the heartland who are his staunchest constituency, and they have spent the last 200 years pretending that there is something wrong with the coastal elites, while the heartland had their fingers on the pulse of the universe.
To admit that Donald is who Donald is, and that his voters are who his voters are would be to admit that the “coastal elite” (which includes a lot of people that live on neither coast) were right. This is a violation of all the media rules these days.
