Every 56 days. Any more frequent and Juno would probably be toast. Jupiter’s radiation belts can exceed 1,000,000 rad. 1000 rad can kill most people in 24 hours.
The universe is beautiful, but deadly. I wish Feynman were alive to re-expalin to religious folk that when they think they are special because of schizotypal Middle Eastern illiterates it is completely out of proportion with the known universe.
The last three – especially the last one – are like Van Gogh on hallucinogens. Stunning.
I just had to share those with my other science buddies here…great way to pick up the spirits after so many bad vibes from Trump and Friends. Beautiful planet…
Warning: Nobody should read this buzzkill comment.
Eh, just makes me feel more cynical, since years ago I found out most probes have grayscale cameras and NASA fakes the color. The Juno probe does have filters that let it take color photos, but I’ve seen some solid albeit unspectacular photos and then you get these crazy exciting ones that are “enhanced color”.
They could probably take a picture of tree bark and make it look just as exciting with “enhanced color”.

I studied astronomy at the university level. They don’t have greyscale cameras per se, rather they almost always have cameras that detect wavelengths outside our visual range. Which means they need to translate the captured data upwards or downwards in wavelength until it falls within the optical range, and this process can’t reasonably be called ‘faking’ colour; all amplitudes are preserved in a new frequency range.
This is simply a necessity when studying many things around us – the universe does not care what our eyes are limited to, and so there are always loads of details in other wavelength ranges.
Those are stunning photographs, thank you Ophelia.
And thank you, Jupiter, for reminding me of the chaos happening in the USA right now, you great big chaotic Stormy Planet.

No, like Holms said, they don’t “fake the colour”. Our eyes have evolved to only perceive a shitty little bit of the spectrum, so they shift the absolutely real colours into frequencies we can experience. The colours are “real”. They’re presented to us in ways we can interpret with our eyes.
(There’s a huge metaphor to be made here regarding gender variance, but far be it from me to pick fights about such things. :-/ )
