I actually do believe there are men who can be trusted. I begin to believe that they cannot be trusted once they get the slightest hint of power over another person (and that counts for all those men that almost totally lack power but have a wife or daughter that they bully incessantly, or get online and post anonymous abuse at every woman who comes into their viewfinders).
Yeah, there’s a reason I’m upset. I’ve been a reader a long time. Back in the day (I don’t know, ’13? 14?) when Ophelia was on FtB she was constantly the target of anti-feminist jerks because of “the great rifts”, and one particularly nasty creep called Vacula stalked Ophelia to such an extent, she backed out of a conference, and this jerk had a podcast called Brave Hero Radio, because that’s what bullies do, they congratulate themselves on what heroes they are. And no decent person would touch this creep with a ten foot pole, except Dave Silverman, head of American Atheists went on his show, and tore the fucker a new one. He confronted him, and told him to fuck off with that anti-feminist shit, and that was a big deal to me because no other “leader” in the atheist community lifted a damn finger. So I had great respect for Silverman. He stood up for women.
Then I read he’s been slapping women around and literally waving his dick in their face and pressuring them into sex and I’m like, what the flying fuck is wrong with men, I don’t even…
That’s why I’m stunned. It’s not, “gee, I never knew that shit happened”, it’s, “Et tu, Dave? Say it ain’t so!”.
