Soros did it
It turns out the whole thing is a left-wing plot to…um…to corrupt our precious bodily fluids? I’m not sure, but it’s definitely left-wing and a plot. And Soros.
Former GOP congressman Jack Kingston on Tuesday doubled-down on his inflammatory allegations that a group of school shooting survivors pushing for tougher gun laws are simply being used by left-wing political groups. Appearing on CNN, the Georgia Republican suggested that billionaire George Soros and other liberal activists had “hijacked” the “sorrow” of survivors of the Parkland, Florida, massacre, who in recent days have been helping organize a series of pro-gun-control protests.
“Do we really think, and I say this sincerely, that 17-year-olds on their own are going to plan a nationwide rally?” Kingston said on CNN Tuesday. “I would say to you very plainly that organized groups that are out there like George Soros are always ready to take up the charge, and it’s kind of like instant rally and instant protest.”
Do we really think that 17-year-olds on their own are going to plan a nationwide rally? If they just saw some of their classmates and teachers blown apart by a guy with an AR-15? Yes, yes I do. In a heartbeat.
Bill O’Reilly also accused the media with applying “extreme peer pressure” on the teenage survivors to promote gun control.
Their remarks coincide with right-wing media stories attacking the credibility of the Florida students who have called for stronger gun laws in the wake of last week’s shooting that left 17 people dead at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
I will never understand why this is framed as a “left” thing versus a “right” thing. Do conservatives like to see schools shot up? Do they want angry hate-filled young dudes wandering around murdering people whenever they feel like it? Is that really a core conservative value? I don’t think so. I don’t think this is an inherently left v right thing. But contingently it is, so the right is defending their corner with all the irrational fanaticism and meanness they can summon up, which sadly is a lot.
(It’s going to take generations for the US to live down the stain of Trump, but as for the Republicans…centuries, at least.)
Intellectual and emotional maturity according to Republicans:
13 years old: ready to date 30-something district attorneys who pontificate about family values
17 years old: not ready to express political opinions about how to prevent more people from dying like their classmates did in front of them; in fact, not even capable of doing so unless strings are being pulled by a Jew — er, an “international banker.”
Oh, good juxtaposition.
George Soros is an organized group? I thought he was just a man.
Actually, I suspect at least some of them do. It gives them the excuse they’re looking for to militarize our schools, to put armed guards and heavy security on the kids to make sure no one steps out of line – in the interests of protecting them, of course.
But mostly, I suspect they believe their own nonsense that it isn’t about guns at all, it’s about reinstating prayer in schools. That way no one would ever pick up a gun and shoot at another human being.
I should have added:
18 years old: old enough to legally buy an AR-15
I don’t think it is a left-vs-right thing – at least, not among voters. Majority of Americans Want Stricter Gun Laws
Those numbers are high enough that a good percentage of the right-voting public must be in favor of stricter gun control laws. It’s not the voters that’s the problem, it’s the elected officials. They’re just not proposing or passing the kind of legislation that even right-wing voters would support, because their military-industrial donors don’t support it, and they appear to be listening more closely to those donors than to their voters.
The right-wing media also has plenty to gain from the military-industrial complex and school shootings. Not only do those industries and their advocacy groups bring in plenty of advertising revenue, but the outrage they generate from vilifying the perpetrator, and from vilifying “the libruls who will use this to take your guns”, and from suggesting that the whole thing might be a false-flag conspiracy, all generates plenty of ratings (which makes the advertising even more lucrative).
Why is it a terrible sin for Soros to publicly say “here are things I believe need support” and for people to take that support, but it’s just fine for a plethora of extreme conservatives to both publicly and not-so-publicly spend their money in support of conservative causes?
What about drunk driving? Are teenagers allowed to organize around that issue? Can they run bake sales to raise funds for school trips? Whether these Republican dumb-asses like it or not, these are the leaders and voters of tomorrow they’re doubting and discouraging.
“(It’s going to take generations for the US to live down the stain of Trump, but as for the Republicans…centuries, at least.)”
That is if there’s no, more imminent, atomic cauterization just around the corner.
“George Soros is an organized group? I thought he was just a man.”
But he has all those flying monkeys working for him. On the other hand there are the Koch Brothers,: THEY’RE an organized group (two, count ’em, TWO!!)
Soros probably organized the whole thing so that the beleaguered White House staff some much needed breathing room because reasons. Cleverly on Soros’s part, it also gave Trump the opportunity to look like an even more callous asshole with his stupid thumbs up photo-op ghastliness. The craziness and contradictions in my hypothesis is no crazier and contradictory than lots of right wing conspiracy staples.
“Why is it a terrible sin for Soros to publicly say “here are things I believe need support” and for people to take that support, but it’s just fine for a plethora of extreme conservatives to both publicly and not-so-publicly spend their money in support of conservative causes?”
Because SHUT UP!!!
Remember all the times they said women couldn’t do this, that or the other? Well, yeah!
17 year olds unable to organise a protest or a campaign..?
Dude, let me introduce you to the social media generation. They’ve been on line making contacts, expressing their opinions, forming relationships, arranging flash mobs and meet-ups with like minded people since they could sit up to a keyboard. If you’re that out of touch they’re going to steamroller you…
” they’re going to steamroller you…”
Don’t you need a licence, a permit and a background check to operate a steamroller?
I could be wrong, but wasn’t there a third Koch brother, who was allegedly swindled out of the yuuugely big corporate cracker inheritance by his ever so sweet siblings? Probably not in on the present swindle though. At least twice as organized as self-made philantropist Soros.
Rrr, there were four Koch brothers. Allegedly three of them believed one (Frederick) to be gay. The attempted to blackmail him into signing over his share in the company, else they would tell Dad. The story goes that he simply replied “I never want to hear of this again” and left the room. End of…
Such a happy, warm loving family with great values. Then again Fred snr, despite being anti communist and a libertarian (or maybe because of that last) built refineries for both Hitler and Stalin pre WW2.
Trust this community to enhance your … insight? Thanks Rob! I really need to be doing other things.
Meanwhile the mourning but angry and eloquent high school kids are being cold shouldered by Gov Rick Scott, after FL congress refuses to accept a motion on gun control in front of them, having travelled a whole day to sit on the balcony.
Maybe a number of GOP seats will get bump stocked out soon.
One can but hope they do.
I spend far too much time following rabbit holes as a result of posts on this forum.
Tell me about it … or not, since Imma gonna be bizzi soon. :-)
Have you seen that, an hour after the Florida congress refused to accept the gun control motion, that great state’s House of Reps approved a resolution declaring pornography to be a public health risk?

I assume they still believe the canard about eyesight and hairy palms.
