Watch: we will put these people down for you
The awfulness of Sarah Sanders.
She dripped disdain.
She oozed contempt.
“If you were paying attention to what I just read to you . . .” she huffed, like an exasperated teacher reprimanding a classroom troublemaker.
No, worse than that, really. More like an angry prison guard. That horrible scowl of hers goes way beyond exasperated.
Watching the press secretary at Monday’s briefing, the words that came to mind were these: A new low.
Yes, a new rock-bottom from the podium at the Trump White House press briefing.
And that is really saying something, given the lying-from-day-one reign of Sean Spicer, along with Sanders’s own fulsome history of dissembling, and the 10-day flameout of Anthony Scaramucci last summer.
Not fulsome; that’s the wrong word. Extensive, packed, overfull – she dissembles a lot.
You might think that as one of the most visible women in the Trump administration, Sanders would bring some credibility — maybe even sympathy — to bear on subjects related to respect for women.
Well, no, because if she had that in her she wouldn’t be doing that job.
In fact, it seems to bring out the worst in her.
For Jay Rosen, New York University journalism professor, this is another reason to “send the interns.” The press briefings are so devoid of substance, so predictably filled with lies, that they aren’t a valid use of top reporters’ time.
Monday’s performance once again fulfilled what he tweeted was the “brand promise” of the Trump administration when dealing with the press: “Watch: we will put these people down for you.”
Really? Sarah Huckabee Sanders is criticizing Nancy Pelosi's facial expressions? Look in the mirror! #hypocrisy #SarahHuckabeeSanders #NancyPelosi #potcallingthekettleblack #scowling #PelosiFrowns #frowngate #pettywoman pic.twitter.com/YaeqZHknJI

Serum! Truth serum! We need a puff-subtracter for this puff-adder! In a chameleon dress too. Serpentine, I say.
Sanders is a meanspirited liar, but honestly criticizing anybody’s facial expressions is dumb. You take enough pictures of somebody, they’re going to be caught pulling an ugly face – and we really don’t need any more “this woman isn’t smiley enough.”
Anna, I kind of agree, and that was my reaction too — but if it is true that Sanders herself used that attack vector, it seems to me that turnaround is nothing but fair.
And it was not limited to facial expression, was it? Sanders’ whole appearence and attitude appears to have been, shall we say, demeaning? (Not having watched myself.)
Is it out of bounds when it looks like SHS is deliberately perfecting the sneer? We’re not complaining that she’s unattractive or ought to smile more or is in any way there to be some sort of eye-candy. We’re complaining – I hope, granted, it’s not as if misogyny is impossible here – that she has an entire attitude that is faithfully expressed by her face and total repertoire of expression that is full of contempt for rationality, evidence, truth, tolerance of dissent, and human dignity. We could quite reasonably praise her ability to convey what she means to convey – it’s that the content is stomach-churning and the expression is so terribly apt to the message.
I know what you mean, Anna, especially since I have angry-resting-face myself and have been shouted at on the street for it…but. I’ve watched enough video clips of Sanders in action to see that she has a Trumpian attitude to the press and about her job. The scowl is not a fleeting or resting expression, it’s how she addresses journalists. It’s not a resting scowl it’s an active scowl. She does it on purpose. I think that makes it legit to point out, especially since there’s nothing wrong with her looks overall.
There may be a use for the Huckster but the carbon footprint is vast. –

If I were one of “these people”, I would see the statement that they would “put me down” as a threat. That is what you do to an injured dog, or a downer cow. And once the dog/cow is put down, it doesn’t get up again.
“When they go low…we also go low.”
So does someone scream “catfight!” as well? I think that’s how it’s usually done if those are the standards.
SHS is despicable, but I never thought I’d see a “ha ha look at her face” montage posted here.
Well, that’s a relief!
I must have gone to the wrong blog.
Well you didn’t see a “ha ha look at her face” montage posted here.
For one thing I don’t find her the least bit funny – I think she’s terrible for the way she helps Trump in his campaign to discredit and undermine the news media. It’s not a joke. There are no jokes in the post.
I am not objecting to her face, I’m objecting to that expression that she puts on it deliberately and with malice aforethought.
Your contempt is noted.
That comment is pissing me off.
Skeletor, you put a sneer in each of those separate lines – we go low, catfight, haha look at her, relief, wrong blog. That’s a lot of sneers for a short comment, especially when you’re simply ignoring or overriding my account of my thinking. We don’t know each other well enough for that.
Skeletor, it isn’t that people on the left are suddenly in favour of criticisng people’s faces, it’s that people on the left are pointing out the stupidity of her criticism AND the hypocrisy of it. I’ll grant that some people on the left are happy to sink to that and other shittiness, but they do not frequent this particular blog.
