That certainly explains all the people on BSky passively aggressively sniping at SNL this morning. “They’re not funny, they’ve never been funny”. Which is weird, because so many SNL anti-trump/MAGA skits get gleefully shared. What makes me sad about this specific skit is that to take a veiled swipe at trans dogma, they’re dumping on a gay couple. Admittedly the issue of surrogacy is lurking unsaid in the background, but they didn’t have the nerve to address that through a straight couple.
Some bits were funny in the 70s. Others not so much. It’s always been a bit hit or miss, but they were always trying different stuff. A lot of good performers came out of there
SNL is and has always been a mixed bag. That’s sketch comedy for you. Some things are completely terrible. Some things are just about perfect. Try “Goth Kid on Vacation,” from a week ago:
Huh. Open mockery of the utterly shambolic reasoning of the ideninny movement. I didn’t find it funny – it was a little too real for that – but I like it anyway.

SNL was entertaining in the 70’s. I guess you had to be there.
