Ford on steroids
Not surprisingly, Musk’s insults and interventions aren’t all that popular in Germany.
The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) is polling in second place at 20% and has seen prominent support by multibillionaire Elon Musk.
The South African-born entrepreneur, 53, is seen as having intervened directly in the election campaign, as well as making provocative attacks on the leaders of Germany’s highest democratic institutions: first the chancellor and then the head of state, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
“Steinmeier is an anti-democratic tyrant!” Musk wrote on his social media platform X. “Shame on him.”
In sharp contrast to Donald Trump, yeah? Nothing tyrannical or anti-democratic about him, right?
Musk’s latest remarks came after he published an opinion piece in a German daily supporting the far-right AfD. A German government spokesperson later referred to the op-ed as evidence that Musk was seeking to sway the election.
…
The US billionaire’s next show of support for the AfD is expected to come soon: According to an AfD spokesperson, concrete plans are being made for a meeting between Musk and AfD leader Alice Weidel on the X-Space chat feature.
He’s not the boss of us.
I do wonder how long the Musk rat will last as an official in the Trump administration. He really is so flaky and his habit of pissing off unnecessarily the USA’s allies may be too much, even for Trump. He lives on-line – he doesn’t know or care that his logorrhoea can cause diseases in the real world.
Timothy Snyder has a bleakly amusing thread about what he calls the Mump regime.

KB Player, I suspect the real falling out won’t be over his being flaky or pissing people off – Trump is both, and might not have a problem with it. I suspect the real falling out will be an ego thing…this whole ‘President Musk’ meme is likely to get under Trump’s skin, and right now, Musk seems to be getting most of the news of the administration, pushing Trump to the background.
When two enormous egos clash – look out for the resulting supernova.
Re: Musk as president. See U.S. Constitution, Article II, Section 1, Clause 5. He is forever disqualified. Not to mention every bit as unfit, if not more so, than Trump.
twiliter: “President Musk” isn’t a call for him to run for the office; rather, it’s a meme suggesting that he’s already running the administration more than Trump is. Hence, it’s definitely going to aggravate Trump and invite pushback.
Yeah, twiliter. I’ve read the Constitution; I was talking about the meme Freemage mentions. It is possible, however, that the GOP could decide to amend the Constitution should they wish a Musk presidency; I wouldn’t put it past them. Though they do need ratification, they could possibly strong arm enough legislatures to get it passed. (I’m sort of kidding…but…not totally.)
Thanks Freemage, I understand. I was just trying to be reassuring and flip the bird at that asshole at the same time. The only American qualities Musk has are the very worst ones.
Thanks too ikn, I do understand.
Sure, they could maybe, but why do it? He’s not Trump… Far more likely is Trump trying to run for a third term and then them nominating him despite the rules and seeing what happens.
If calling him “President Musk” gets Trump pissed off, I’m all for it. Maybe he’ll blow a gaskett. Or, to quote Ken Watanebe’s character in Godzilla: “Let them fight.”
@9 The problem is that when giants fight, not-giants suffer.
