Earth’s atmosphere gets pink slip
Federal agencies must develop plans to eliminate employee positions, according to a memo distributed Wednesday by President Donald Trump ‘s administration that sets in motion what could become a sweeping realignment of American government.
The memo expands the Republican president’s effort to downsize the federal workforce, which he has described as an impediment to his agenda. Thousands of probationary employees have already been fired, and now his administration is turning its attention to career officials with civil service protection.

“The federal government is costly, inefficient, and deeply in debt. At the same time, it is not producing results for the American public,” said the memo from Russell Vought, director of the White House’s Office of Management and Budget, and Charles Ezell, acting director of the Office of Personnel Management, which functions as a human resources agency. “Instead, tax dollars are being siphoned off to fund unproductive and unnecessary programs that benefit radical interest groups while hurting hard-working American citizens.”
…
Specific targets for reductions were not included in the memo, but Trump said the Environmental Protection Agency could cut its workforce by 65%.
Of course. Who the hell needs an environment? Environments are just a politically correct invention by weirdo left-wing weirdos. Get rid of it!
Citation needed. I won’t repeat again what I’ve said before, because I think everyone here knows it. I just wish journalists would actually say it, instead of accepting the idea that everything in the government costs too much.
It’s not the journalist saying it, it’s Russell Vought.
Trump wants to burn more “beautiful, clean coal.”
“Instead, tax dollars are being siphoned off to fund unproductive and unnecessary tax cuts”
FTFY
Just imagine how much cheaper, efficient, a debt free the military could be by outsourcing to Russia.
The EPA won’t be the only environmental casualty. All the national parks will be sold for mining, logging, and construction of luxury resorts.
Yes, I know it was Vought saying it, but I also see journalists never questioning the idea.
Government is always costly. It’s not an income-producing enterprise. It *is* efficient, in the sense of providing things that people simply cannot do for themselves. If it’s deeply in debt, then one avenue of reducing the debt is to increase revenues. The things that government does? That individuals cannot or will not do for themselves? That’s what taxes are for.
maddog, so true. And to all those who are saying the government should run like a business? Business is almost always in debt. They run on debt, and get loans to do most of what they do. The people who say they have to balance their household budget, why doesn’t the government have to balance theirs are ignorant of what it means to be in debt. Most of them have house payments, car payments, and credit card payments. This is the way things are done. We float on debt, and debt is not inherently a bad thing. Getting into debt you cannot pay is a bad thing, and the Republican presidents have been doing that since Reagan. Clinton was managing the debt better than Reagan ever did, and debt always increases under Republican leadership. So maybe they ARE running the country like a business. And now, like many businesses do, we may find ourselves bankrupt.
