There’s a little more to it
Yes, the one consolation for the victory of the convicted felon is that he’s not a TransAlly and won’t be appointing any men who pretend to be women to cabinet posts. No, that’s not because he respects women.
In other words, what she said.
All of what she said:
In case I haven’t been clear in the numerous articles I have written in which I slate and heavily criticise what passes for the modern left these days, including Biden and Harris. I understand, as far as I am able, whyTrump was elected, and the absolute shit show surrounding the Democrats. What I have been astounded about are all of these women and men making statements about how Trump will now protect women and children, and will make that his priority. That women and girls will be safe under Trump. I’m sorry if this has offended you, but I stand by it. And yes, he does know what a woman is. You are certainly right about that.
Like for instance:
I agree. If there is one single positive feature of the felon’s reelection it is that he’s not keen on trans activism. That’s the only positive thing I can think of.
Seems to be a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation for women. Rapists in women’s prisons or government in women’s uteri. Take your pick.
Neither the trans activists nor the anti-choicers are any skin off my gay male nose. Yet it seems to me the anti-choicers–and their religious right allies–can do a hell of a lot more damage.
It’s a sad, sad time to be female in the US, and that sucks bigtime.
Actually, they did vote for him to govern every aspect of their thought. After all, he said he wanted to be a dictator on day one.
Harris was wrong on the trans issue; Harris might actually be able to be convinced she is wrong. Trump is wrong on every other issue; Trump will never be convinced he is wrong. He may change his mind, but he will never acknowledge it, because he isn’t ever wrong, in his own stupid mind. He will just insist he’s always believed and said what he is now saying.
As for racism and sexism, Trump is not likely to change. He is and always has been racist and sexist, and in a very brutally macho way.
I don’t want male rapists in women’s prisons; Trump might very well fulfill that desire. In the end, all the other shit show that is Trump will make it a Pyrrhic victory, at best. We will have male rapists in our streets, our homes, and our businesses, instead, with impunity. All the things feminists have fought for – not just single-sex spaces – are on the line. And Harris was by far the best choice, because I think if she were ever to sit down and look at the stats on males in women’s prisons, she might be on her way toward being convinced.
The dilemma:
(i) A functioning republic is a prerequisite for addressing any political issue.
(ii) A functioning concept of man & woman, male & female, is a prerequisite for addressing any women’s (or men’s, for that matter) issue.
Nullius, a functioning concept of man and woman, male and female, is a prerequisite for the propagation of the species!
I have no idea what the solution to the dilemma is; my preference is for the left to get its head out of its ass, clean house a bit, and get back to issues that matter. I don’t expect that, though.
iknklast, correct me if I am wrong here, but aren’t most US prisons under state control, and many of those farmed out to for profit operators? If that’s the case, I don’t see Drumpf being able to do anything except flap his gums.
I am wondering what Trump’s day one Executive Order on this matter will be, especially in light of Joe Biden’s quite unexpected day one Executive Order on this was. A direct reversal of Biden’s EO would be quite good.
Rev David Brindley:
There’s both federal and state prisons (and yes, the state prisons tend to be heavily privatized). However, the federal government has all sorts of levers it can use to push states in specific policy directions.
Rev, what Freemage said. The most serious crimes – murder, rape, etc – are mostly state crimes. Most of those state prisons are privatized. That doesn’t mean the feds can’t exert any control.
