Well, gee, you can hardly blame her for being so upset. After all, if Israel found out that the BAKERSFIELD CITY COUNCIL disapproves of them, they’d call a ceasefire immediately!
If I ever run for city council (which will be never), my platform will be “I will vote against any and all resolutions that are pointless signalling on issues that aren’t city council business.” Resolution condemning Israel? No. Resolution condemning Hamas? Also no. Resolution declaring that Donald Trump is a shitty person? No.
Fixing the fucking potholes? Yes.
And while I’m venting, crap like this is why I roll my eyes every time someone waxes rhapsodic about “New England town hall meetings.” You ever been to a town hall meeting public comment section? It’s all assholes like this ranting about whatever their pet issue is, though usually they manage to avoid threatening murder.
Screechy, that’s so true! Assholes showed up at a City Council meeting demanding an abortion ban; the mayor, to his credit, shut them down. He explained that is not what City Council does.
I have once, now you mention it. It was something to do with the zoo, when I worked there – I forget the details. I’m sure we kept the threats to a minimum.
I always assumed Parks and Rec wasn’t much of an exaggeration in that respect, certainly our town meetings have a whiff of that to them. No threats though.
Interesting that Hamas ‘rapesistance’ doesn’t register as an ‘escalation of violence’ in her view. And also interesting to me that she had no problem aiming these threats at at least one fellow WOC. The demographic ‘oppression Olympics’ seems to only be relevant when it works in favour of the bully/threatener.
My favorite was the activists at a Berkeley, CA Rent Control Board meeting. THAT RESOLUTION will shut the war down!
In other news, Sacramento is now a “ Sanctuary City” for trans people. The City is overrun with homeless camps, a budget deficit, a shabby downtown, and crime but by god protecting the threatened dears is so important.
This relates more to the title of this post than to most of comments that have been made, but no matter.
A book that has been sitting on the bookshelf next to my bed, unopened and unread since about 1986, but opened yesterday, is Germaine Greer’s book The Madwoman’s Underclothes. I opened it at random on the page where a review of Conundrum begins. It contains the following passage:
Jan Morris is a man who has eaten a great many pills, artificial hormones and the crystallized essence of pregnant mares, a man who has had his penis cut ff, but a man nevertheless. It is only courteous to refer to him as she because she wishes to be called so.
Later on, it says:
If policies have changed, and genetically normal men who eat pills and have themselves castrated are to be admitted to the female sex (needless to say by men who have not consulted the actual members of the sex so honoured) then the situation had better be made public.
That was published in 1974. I doubt whether it could be published today without calls for Germaine Greer to be strung up on the nearest lamp post. There is lots more good stuff in the review: Germaine Greer was never one to mince her words.
One correction: essence of the urine of pregnant mares
One comment: The words “genetically normal men” (the word “normal” in particular) suggests a recognition that genuine transsexuals do exist, however rare they may be. Quite right too, and they need to be treated with compassion.

This makes no sense, even if you accept the bullshit of trans ideology. “Sanctuary cities” are places where people who are seeking to avoid prosecution by a larger jurisdiction may go to be given cover. FREX: A city where undocumented immigrants can try to set up and not be worried about being harassed by a local PD that works hand-and-glove with ICE. Since there is no federal effort to round up trans people, being a ‘sanctuary city’ is a rare true example of virtue signaling by the council.

Ma’am, you are in Bakersfield, CA. If you want to do something about Israel and Gaza, go to either Israel or Gaza or both.

This seems like a mental health issue: she sounds insane.
Interesting that she calls the officials “horrible people”. Way to win over people to your cause.
Plus the bit about “We’ll see you at your house. We’ll murder you!” Real Ghoulish.
Also, I fail to see how her little tantrum will do anything to help the unfortunate Palestinians.
And she plead “Not Guilty”, of course.

When I lived in the Bay Area, “the City” (with a capital C) always meant San Francisco. Has that changed in the past 50 years?
Good find.
