The decision
The Washington Post said Friday that it will not endorse a candidate in the presidential election this year — or ever again — breaking decades of tradition and sparking immediate criticism of the decision.
But the newspaper also published an article by two staff reporters revealing that editorial page staffers had drafted an endorsement of Democratic nominee Kamala Harris over GOP nominee Donald Trump in the election.
“The decision not to publish was made by The Post’s owner — Amazon founder Jeff Bezos,” the article said, citing two sources briefed on the events.

The Post on Friday evening published a third article, signed by opinion columnists for the newspaper, who said, “The Washington Post’s decision not to make an endorsement in the presidential campaign is a terrible mistake.”
“It represents an abandonment of the fundamental editorial convictions of the newspaper that we love, and for which we have worked a combined 218 years,” the column said. “This is a moment for the institution to be making clear its commitment to democratic values, the rule of law and international alliances, and the threat that Donald Trump poses to them — the precise points The Post made in endorsing Trump’s opponents in 2016 and 2020.”
Blink twice if you’re being held captive.
I wonder why the L.A. Times or WaPo would hesitate to endorse. Soon-Shiong and Bezos don’t seem particularly conservative or fans of Trump. How could they be? Therefore I’m thinking it has to do with their feelings toward Harris. I really can’t figure this part out though. The only real gripe I’ve had with Harris, or the only one that’s not political propaganda, is her embracing of the trans pronoun garbage. Even so, that issue, if Harris is elected, is highly unlikely to unravel the fabric of society or anything. It would be nice if one or both of those guys would provide some explanation of why they don’t endorse Harris, or if they do in fact think Trump isn’t the worst, and least fit for office presidential candidate in history, then explain that, because I surely don’t get it.
I finally get it:
An authoritarian/fascist “leader” doesn’t need to be smart, nor versed in history, nor experienced at politics.
He doesn’t need to be articulate, nor compassionate, nor far-sighted —
He just needs to inspire cowardice.
Hence, all the prologue-to-election rabble about retribution and enemies within, etc. [“He” chosen purposely, for while a female leader might do the same, it is awfully rare.]
Bezos’ cowardice has been revealed, and Trump has learned that Bezos can be cowed into being a faithful subject.
It’s laughable the way American “progressives” had the utmost good faith in a group of billionaires to uphold the standards of liberal democracy. They really think Jeff Bezos and Patrick Soon-Shiong would buy newspaper outlets to promote diversity in the US media? If opposing Trump is unprofitable, they won’t do it, and they also won’t platform people who oppose Trump.
When people with gender-critical views were booted off social media a few years ago, some of these people sneered “Private corporations can do whatever they want.” Well, they’re doing what they want now, and these same people are furious.
