Tell us about his passport again
Horrible.
Updating to add Oliver Brown in a live report from the Telegraph:
Angela Carini was in floods of tears as she stopped to speak in the interview area, having abandoned her bout with Imane Khelif after only 46 seconds. Her voice quavering, she said that she pulled out because she had never been hit so hard. Imane Khelif swept through the mixed zone without saying a word. It is staggering to think how only yesterday, Mark Adams, the International Olympic Committee’s spokesman, had said that everyone should just “dial down” the issue and not instigate a “witchhunt”. To reiterate, Khelif had failed two sex tests by the International Boxing Association. It is, frankly, an absolute scandal.
The header photograph to The Guardian’s report says it all. The cheat sitting on the ropes, looking at Carini with a sneer on his face while holding his right hand out in an obvious ‘the exit’s this way’ manner.

I’ve just watched the video of the bout and aside from the powerful head-punches I counted four times that Khelif aimed punches directly at Carini’s breasts (for the record, Khelif has a typically-male flat chest). Then, after Khelif was announced as the winner Carini tried to walk away from him as he went to commiserate with (gloat at?) her so as she walked past him he put out his ungloved right hand and patted her directly on her breast. A cheat and a groper.
“She’s not happy about something”
You don’t say.
My low-rent Rocky Marciano comment proved to be far more accurate than I expected. The head gear substantially reduces the concern about the punches to the head being a massive safety hazard. Carini does a good job of guarding her head, Khelif doesn’t land anything telling – but he uses a left jab repeatedly to set up a simple punch to the torso (maybe the breast as Acolyte suggests, though that is not as effective as lower). She knows she has a problem the first time he does it, but she is in trouble in the few seconds from the punch landing at 1:10 and when she calls it. Probably had much of the air forced out of her lungs.
Now, look at his defence. It is high and wide, the only thing he is really worried about is a crosscut or similar to the head. He knows damn well he has a massive edge in punching power, and really has nothing to worry about from Carini landing something on his torso.
The issue isn’t just unequal strength in a contest to hit each other in the head, Carini is playing a game of paper-scissors-rock where she cannot choose paper.
So much for that ‘nothing telling’ comment. It appears one of those glancing shots broke her nose.
Yes the broken nose was being mentioned in what I saw.
That was probably the straight right punch at 1:39, judging by how Carini took a second or-so to signal to her corner that she was out. I have had my nose broken a couple of times playing rugby and both times there was a brief delay between the blow (which comes with an instantaneous blinding flash) and the searing pain accompanied by tears filling the eyes. By the way she reacted after that punch, I’d say that she stood back to let her vision clear and then felt the pain, and as her eyes would have been flooded with tears her vision will have been massively impaired, and it would have been both pointless and too dangerous to continue.
The Paris Olympics of 2024 started with base obscenity and then moved on to true atrocity. What a horrible thing to see. How do any women support this nonsense? Can’t they see where this leads? Do they truly believe they will never be the victims of the misogyny they are supporting?
